Shades of the Zelensky Oval Office meeting. Yes, it is that crude and the MAGA(t) giving testimony is not at the top of his game, to say the least. Scott Bessent was thought to be one of the saner and more measured of Trump’s cabinet picks, and yes, when compared to the likes of Pete Hegseth or Howard Lutnick, Bessent isn’t quite so outlandish. But he knows he doesn’t belong in the job and he needs to rely on bluster. Bluster wasn’t playing so well today.
He has repeatedly shown his colors today .. combative .. condescending .. yes, racist.. misogynistic
This is a glimpse into the Trump oligarchy
Bravo @StaceyPlaskett for giving this smug prig some righteous comeuppance

That’s how Bessent plays out, as the superior being, the one with all the knowledge and he’s going to contradict the underling, who is female and a POC, how could she possibly know anything? This is indeed a glimpse into the Trump oligarchy. And guess what? The rest of the world sees this and is not amused. Trump’s approval ratings are not only underwater in this country, but around the world.
Pew Research Center surveyed people in 24 countries, including 10 in Europe, from late February through early April. It found that the share of respondents who view the U.S. favorably has dropped in most of them compared to the spring of 2024.
Respondents have little confidence in Trump as a world leader or in his ability to address global challenges, from wars in Ukraine and Gaza to climate change and U.S. immigration policies.
When Trump was first elected in 2016, the U.S.’s popularity worldwide similarly dropped, but the country recovered to previous levels during the Joe Biden presidency, according to data from Pew, a U.S.-based think tank that describes itself as non-partisan.
I wonder if we’ll be able to pull off the same feat twice. I truly do. The first time Trump was elected, it was thought of as a mistake but we can’t ascribe his second term to mistake. People saw what he was, they threw him out of the White House, then they invited him back in. That anybody would vote for Trump, let alone the tens of millions that did, is a sad indictment of who America has become — at least who a solid faction of America has become.
In Europe, an outlier when it comes to Trump is Hungary, the only country where the majority of respondents are confident in the American president.
They’re going to say they’re confident because in Hungary, you don’t say anything that the local dictator doesn’t like.
The majority of responders across the countries surveyed agreed that Trump is “dangerous” and “arrogant,” and few think he is honest. Most, however, also see him as a “strong leader.”
Horse manure is strong, too, but it’s still horse manure. As predicted, Trump’s reelection has toppled our standing on the world stage. And this is less than five months in. We don’t know what horrors lie in store. “Yankee, go home,” may end up being a universal sentiment by the time Trump is through.

Until the ENTIRE democratic party grows a set, and FIGHTS LIES AT EVERY TURN, our republic is over.
