He’s making their heads hurt. During his latest ramblings, he talked about something that literally is impossible for Congressional GOP members to do. It’s all about his obsession without any realization that this isn’t possible. Everyone is tired of hearing about it. No one wants it. It’s ridiculous. Everyone knows it won’t happen except for Trump. Maybe a year ago, it would have been possible to reason with him. As the days go by, his mind is slipping, and it’s almost impossible to get him to understand anything. With gratitude for Raw Story:

Laughter erupted on CNN Sunday morning as a joyful Manu Raju delved into thefresh hill headache” President Donald Trump has created for Republicans on Capitol Hill. The problem? Trump insisted on prime-time television that Congress pass the SAVE America Act, Raju reported with a smile. “President Trump is making demands that Republicans simply cannot fulfill,” the CNN host said. “Trump’s obsession over the issue has effectively derailed the GOP agenda.” The SAVE America Act — a bill to crack down on a pattern of non-citizen voting, experts say, does not exist — has split leadership in the House and Senate, Raju argued.

Derailed is an understatement. Ripped it up and threw it away is closer. The GOP is going to have trouble at midterms. They can’t get away from the SAVE Act because Trump won’t shut up about it. We, the people, would like to hear about what the GOP intends to do over the next few years. Do they have a vision going forward? It would be nice to hear something that doesn’t come out of Trump’s mouth but out of that of the Republicans. But unless they can pull away from Trump and be able to say something relevant, they’re stuck.

He characterized Trump’s demand as foolish, as it exposed “sharp dividesin Republican leadership, including between Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune. “Typically, in an election year, you put together bills that you can divide the other party and get your vulnerable members to vote on so they can go back and tout these issues,” said Raju. Journalist Nia-Malika Henderson shouted back, “But that’s a hoax!” Laughter erupted. It wouldn’t be the last time.

Apparently, your writer has missed some information along the way. Divides between Johnson and Thune. You would expect that it would not be happening. But seemingly, it is. There are probably also divides in the party in either the House or the Senate. Each part of Congress has the far-right hardliners to deal with. That caucus is such a pain in the arse. They enjoy being recalcitrant. They are *always* the hardest caucus to get to join in, and they make impossible demands. It’s thanks to them that we had Medicaid cuts. These are the people we need to slap silly. Sheesh.

Raju argued Trump had made things “so difficult for Republicans” by refusing to accept that his plan “won’t pass muster.” “Trump just will not accept no for an answer, even though it’s very clear,” said Raju. He then quoted Thune’s questioning of Johnson’s plans to support it:Is the juice worth the squeeze?” Once again, there were cackles of laughter. “I know,” replied Associated Press reporter Seung Min Kim. “Speaker Mike Johnson kind of goes for that instant gratification; he really tries to appeal to Trump.” Raju then fact-checked Johnson’s claim that most Republican voters joined Trump in wanting the SAVE America Act to be passed, citing a recent Gallup poll as proof. “[It’s] the economy, of course!” said Raju. “No surprise there.”

Is the juice worth the squeeze? Good comment. May have to steal it for future use. Johnson is almost too obsequious. Thune, not so much. Both of them have stood up to Trump, which, for Johnson, is amazing. The Republicans have been chained to Trump for far too long. The chains can be broken. It’s a matter of standing up and stepping away. How many are too scared to try that? Where did it go so wrong? In the meantime, Trump continues to harp on the SAVE Act, and it is not doing him any good. It is not doing Republicans any good.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
