This is perfect Trumpian logic, which is to say it’s not logical at all but it is self serving and that’s vintage Trump. He does nothing and says nothing without himself and his wellbeing first, foremost and solely in his mind. As to the country, our way of life, that ranks decidedly second if figured into the equation at all.

“It’s some deep psychological thing, but when you win the presidency, you don’t win the midterms,” Trump said. The 79-year-old then suggested that he had accomplished so much as president that “when you think of it, we shouldn’t even have an election.”

I differ that it’s deep or psychological. I see it as merely part of the checks and balances system, the pendulum of government swinging one way and then the other, depending on who’s in power and in what chamber of government. Trump doesn’t think that way, obviously. He thinks in terms of mob family rule and he should run everything, regardless of what the electorate thinks. Daily Beast:

Earlier this month, Trump told a room full of House Republicans at the now MAGA-fied Kennedy Center that “they should cancel” the midterms, while warning of the consequences if the GOP loses.

“You gotta win the midterms,” Trump said. “Because if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just going to be—I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me. I’ll get impeached.”

The president has appeared increasingly resigned to the possibility that Republicans could lose their governing trifecta during the final two years of his term.

“If you go back a long way, the sitting president—whether it’s Democrat or Republican—always loses the midterm, even if they’ve done well. Almost always,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity last week.

There you have it, Trump’s worried about getting impeached. And with good cause. With the kind of overreach that he does routinely he deserves to be impeached. Again.

Trump had the information about his two impeachments removed from the Smithsonian but that information may go right back up there on his portrait when he’s out of office. And I would look for the Kennedy Center to have the Trump name removed from it as well. Oh, and don’t be surprised if the patio gets dug up and the earth tilled to replant Jackie’s rose garden in lieu of the Howard Johnson-esque orange umbrellas, which is the architectural equivalent of a sore thumb.

And I don’t know what will happen to the white elephant of the ballroom at this point. We only know it as one of Trump’s fantasies and maybe it will get bulldozed under and the East Wing restored.

  1. If we’re lucky and sanity prevails, the ballroom will never get built. The builders, et al, need to stall and drag their feet, Trump-style. It seems to work for him. Turnabout is fair play.

  2. The restoration of the Rose Garden is my biggest hope, closely followed by the ballroom never getting built. I am so incredibly tired of Trump 2.0.

  3. “Trump had the information about his two impeachments removed from the Smithsonian but that information may go right back up there on his portrait when he’s out of office.”

When the Dems retake Congress, that should be among their FIRST actions: Restore the independence of the Smithsonian from ANY President’s interference or involvement.
