It would be interesting to see what law students would say on an exam if the fact pattern of Donald Trump’s lawlessness and disregard for damaging his own case was presented to them. It would go something like this: “You represent a criminal defendant who won’t keep his mouth shut. He keeps denigrating the judge and opposing counsel in his case, while he raves about laws that do not apply to his situation. He is thought to be mentally unstable as well. What would you, as his attorney, do? Discuss.”
Here’s the latest in disobedience to the court.
The simple reality is that Judge Tanya Chutkan gave Trump’s lawyers until 5:00 p.m. Monday to file their paperwork in response to the Protective Order that Jack Smith moved the court for Friday. This is not helping their situation. But then again, that’s why they get paid the movie star wages.

Here’s how things go on the Fuck Around and Find Out Highway:
- The Judge lays out the rules of the road and you accept. (Trump did and then went back on his word within 36 hours.)
- The Judge warns;
- The Judge sanctions;
- The Judge issues a gag order;
- The Judge could even fast track his case and may do just that.

He defied a judge. Today. So…jail time until the trial starts? It’s what happens to everyone else.
Yeah, I remember a phrase from somewhere. Equal justice for all. He has basically told the judge and prosecutor to go screw themselves. He needs to see the inside of a jail cell. At this point anyone else would be locked up. What makes this clown special.
Over the front entrance to the Supreme Court’s building in big block letters are the words ‘EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW” Sadly, it’s only an ideal. Some folks have always been “more equal” than others & rich and/or powerful people are a WHOLE lot more “equal” than most of us. Even a white male like me! Trump is nowwhere near as rich as he’s claimed but still has a net worth that even in not all that liquid gives him financial clout and of course there’s his political clout. I can’t imagine why anyone would be surprised by the special treatment of him in the courts, even now. That’s always been how things are for rich/powerful white folks, especially men. It shouldn’t be that way and it infuriates me to no end but it’s just how things are. And have always been.
