If you wonder how jaded we have become in this politically burnt out and benumbed world, just take a look at Donald Trump’s latest post. It won’t shock you at all. That’s the news. In another era, any other era, a sitting president communicating this drivel would be shocking. But not in 2025 and during Trump 2.0. Not after what we’ve been through and continue to be bombarded with each and every day. People discuss Trump’s next coup d’etat like they discuss what to have for lunch and this is the new abnormal.

“Completely obliterated.” Razed to the ground. No longer standing. Just some random twigs amongst broken boards and shards of glass. We should all thank Donald on bended knee that the City of the Angels is still there.

The truth is that Trump hates California and believe me when I tell you California hates him. With a passion. I remember being in the middle of a conversatioin once, around 2017, when a friend in New York and a friend in California were debating which state hated Trump the most. You might logically assume that it would be New York, because New Yorkers have been putting up with the clown prince for many decades and they’re disgusted with him. But no, Californians hate Trump with a particular passion.

He’s the antithesis of everything that is California. He’s a complete phony and while that accusation may be leveled at Hollywood, there are a great many talented and gifted people in Hollywood and in the entire state. They’re far more legitimate than the trust fund baby with the floofy hair, the orange makeup and the shoe lifts, which might make him a bit taller but also make him look like the leaning Tower of Pisa.

That’s part of what repulses Californians, the rest of it being his overt racism, misogyny, and just plain stupidity. Say what you will about the Golden State, it’s been the birthplace of many innovations and inventions, whether scientific or cultural, for some time. People of accomplishment live there and Trump is not an accomplished person. He’s a grifter who cobbled together a TV persona that sold for 14 years and then he parlayed that persona into politics. His one accomplishment is understanding the lowest common denominator in this country and playing to it. At that he excels.

What Trump has done is miraculous on the one hand, yes. But it is an indictment of the shallowness of our culture on the other. Trump is not the self-made billionaire, captain of industry that he played on The Apprentice. But such is the power of the boob tube that enough people believed him in that role to put him in the White House. Twice. And of course they were aided and abetting by a feckless and complicit Republican party, whose moral compass has long been shattered.

It’s an American horror story which will be written about for decades, possibly even centuries to come, for ought that we know.

And as to the megalomania, he’s just getting warmed up. Trump has yet to do his best insanity. That is yet to come. And very probably it won’t take him long to really go off the deep end. At least, that’s the rumbling that we’re hearing, “Beware the Ides of June” and what happens with a military presence on the streets.

Expect the tweets to get even crazier. And expect Trump’s actions to mirror his insane tweets. It’s going to be a long, hot summer.

  1. APPROPOS of nothing written above, one look at Melania Trump’s face is enough to testify why everything associated with Trump dies. This once beautiful woman is looking old, abused, suffering, frayed, and aged way beyond her years.
This fact alone should be made widely known. More than anything, due to the extreme vanities of both, this observation should ignite viral sparks.
I first noticed it when she wore what looked like curtains from her Grandma’s house (actually a Valentino) gown but her old face shocked me. Now, every photo shows an aged, unattractive woman.
My unsolicited advice: Get out, Melania. Find yourself a good man who
doesn’t smell like shit, act like shit, is shit!

  2. One thing we can all learn from this is that democracy simply does not work without a really good public educational system also extending into media (as it did in this country when I was coming up) — and which must include the arts and humanities (but not BS arts and humanities), because without that people may be technically smart (if that), but stupid about everything else. Let’s stop pretending otherwise. The present unbelievable degradation of our country is living proof of it.
