Things are not looking good post closing arguments. The criminal defendant is very worried about losing his case and becoming a resident of the House Of Many Doors. How can you tell? For one thing, Donald Trump, whose hair seems to be noticeably getting sparser since the middle of last month, jumped on Truth Social first thing after court and bellowed about the judge, in his usual shrieking all-caps. We may be in for another night of marathon posts here folks. Somebody better get Trumpty some warm milk and grind a lot of Valium into it.

Then, Fox News, which acts as a weather vane for right-wing thinking, is showing signs of an approaching storm — not to mention raw panic. Sean Hannity is beside himself tonight. It’s all so so unfair. Here’s what that blather sounds like.

The narrative here is clear and that is to demonize Justice Juan Merchan. Justice Merchan has bent over backwards to be fair to Trump and that has been duly noted throughout the course of the trial. But right-wing media has decided, and Trump has decided, that their play is to portray Justice Merchan as a monster and the trial is rigged.
We live in the world of Rigged. Maybe we should just rename the planet Rigged. Because elections are rigged, trials are rigged, any news story that Trump disagrees with is fake, it’s just all so unfair. Have you ever seen a scenario like this, a blameless, pure man against whom everything is rigged?
Expect this to be the discourse that you will hear going forward.

Trump’s best hope is for a hung jury:
Trump plans to appeal immediately, and his presidential campaign already has fundraising appeals and merchandise ready to go, similar to the way it monetized Trump’s jail mugshot in his Georgia election interference case. Some wanted to sell jail-orange shirts (“orange after all is the new black,” said one insider), but that was deemed too edgy by others (“we don’t have to go there,” said another).
But there’s also a widespread belief in Trump’s orbit that, if convicted, he won’t see a prison cell. Legal experts say it’s a possibility. But no one is sure, and CBS News reported the Secret Service has met with local jail officials.
Throughout the trial, Trump advisers have nervously watched his poll numbers against President Biden and have been somewhat surprised that the former president maintains an inside-the-error-margin lead.
“What would a conviction do? We have no idea, but so far so good,” one adviser said. Polling still shows it would be a net negative for Trump.
A hung jury, the source added, would be “a win for us” echoing Trump’s penchant for always declaring victory anyway. “If they can’t get a conviction in Manhattan, what’s that say about the case? . . . Alvin Bragg can charge again, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”

You notice Kim wasn’t in New York today with Eric, Junior, Lara and Tiffany. And don’t even ask about Melania. It was predicted that Melania wouldn’t show her face and lo, so it came to pass. Not even for closing arguments. And don’t expect to see her on the campaign trail. As I’ve said before, it will be a miracle if she shows up at the GOP convention. Don’t hold your breath.
Don Don has no credible defence, so it looks like the next move is a continual barrage of ‘trumped up’ character assassination along with thumping fists on the floor, where he’s bound to be found wailing about his perceived injustices.
