This announcement just launched into cyberspace. If this isn’t an example of Trump losing his marbles, I don’t know what is. There is a planned rebuttal after President Biden’s State Of The Union address by Senator Katie Britt. Usually such things are enough, although in all truth Sarah Huckabee Sander’s rebuttal last year was a disaster. That was because it wasn’t a rebuttal, it was a waltz down memory lane where she rhapsodized about how wonderful it was to visit troops at Xmas in Afghanistan in the thrall of her mango master. It fell resoundingly flat on both sides of the aisle. Steve Bannon bashed Sanders, saying she “lacked the intellect,” to do the job properly. So maybe Trump is trying to forestall a similarly disappointing result. Or, maybe, and this is more likely, he simply wants to be the center of attention and take the spotlight away from Joe. And I’m sure his antics will achieve that, to some extent.
Now personally? I think this is wonderful. I totally cannot wait to see this take place. Trump is going to fall on his ass resoundingly and in real time. How much do you want to bet that his aides are trying to talk him out of this?
Trump’s the sky is falling rhetoric only works when he can convince the audience that he’s got a better way to do things. He tried that gag in 2016 and it worked. And so we saw, for four interminable years, what he could get done and it was quite underwhelming, to say the least.
Plus, the set up here is a catastrophic one: Trump is not good at thinking on his feet. The only town halls or interviews that he can do are soft ball ones, where he has a host who is in his corner, feeding him lines, basically, and an audience that loves him. Here, Trump is proposing to take whatever fact Joe Biden throws out and come up with a convincing lie, off the top of his head, that somehow tops Biden’s truth. This is sheer fantasy not to mention madness.
In all candor, I can’t believe that his chief strategist, Chris LaCivita, is allowing this to go on. He’s got to know how Trump is going to do the equivalent of political sepukku on live social media.
I would not be surprised one bit if this was called off at the last second and the rationale will be that it would detract from Senator Britt’s rebuttal and so Trump didn’t want to do that. Unless they can come up with a better lie, but that’s the one that I would tell.
And Trump’s really on a roll today. Did he take the wrong dosage of something?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but there was never any issue about debates. But this is something that is filtering up from the right-wing sewer, that Biden doesn’t want to debate Trump. This is somehow a cover for the fact that Trump wouldn’t debate anybody during the Republican primaries. You see this hinted at from time to time in right-wing threads, that Biden’s “afraid” to debate Trump. Just more disinformation.
And now Trump uses that disinformation to make himself look like the heroic challenger overcoming Biden’s reticence. There never has been any reticence. Biden has always been prepared to debate Trump when the time coms. Trump is now framing it as Biden is being dragged into a debate forum, which he’s been resisting, by he-man Trump.
It will be so nice when this mental illness is at least in remission for a while. As I’ve said before, MAGA is here to stay, but like all evil and disease, it will recede for a while, until it’s reborn in a new and more lethal form.
Bring it on, Donald! We do so look forward to hearing exactly what you have to say. Now you know that practically nobody will be engaging over on Truth Social, but I presume that Trump will cross-post to Twitter. And if he does that, he’ll get the kitchen sink thrown at him. So he may not choose to do so.
And if that’s the case? Then this is all playacting for the base, all a pantomime to make them believe that Trump’s in charge, he’s the king. He’s going to preach to the choir. Why he would waste his time, we know not. But it reeks of desperation.
And maybe that’s why LaCivita is letting him do it. Maybe he’s hoping for minimum damage and at least Trump can feel he’s in the spotlight and a part of things. I’ll tell you who’s got a best seller waiting to be written and it is Chris LaCivita. If he levels with everybody about how batshit insane Trump is, he’ll have a movie deal on top of it.

Truth vs Lies.
My money is on the truth prevailing.
The neat thing about truth is that it’s self sustaining and self reinforcing, effortlessly and freely.
All the little bits of truth line up with and support each other without you having to do anything. Lies, on the other hand are hard, you have to check all the time that the invented fabrication you’ve devised doesn’t clash with all the other fabrications. That requires a lot of effort, and republicans, (especially Trump), are lazy, their lies are quickly exposed. A litany of lies is like a net, it looks like it covers things nicely, but it’s full of holes you can see through when you’re closer.
The truth is just reality, no holes just solid actuality.
Truth always wins over lies when you really look at things.

Not sure what you mean by a co-presidency. Can you define that, please? Then I’m sure many people can answer it.
Yeah and he was going to testify at every trial. He has sooo much money, he could easily pay these judgements and so on. The magats are the only ones who keep buying his bullcrap…everyone else is hip to the con.
I am seriously thinking Trump might back out. Unless, all he plans to do is take a statement of Biden’s and then rave about something tangential for a few minutes. That I can see him doing. But an actually rebuttal, which involves facts? No way in hell.
If you want a truly paranoid thought, from outside the US, I wonder if Trump has ordered a last minute SOTU disinvitation. Then the entire media might be expected to switch across to the Trump “rebuttal” so they can fill the time already allocated.
So in this ploy of Trump’s, Joe is left standing outside the Capitol, unable to get into the House chambers, and Trump is just raving into a vacuum — and not addressing Joe? That’s a little hard for me to follow.
That would nicely fuel the ‘Biden is so weak’ meme. As I said, a paranoid thought.
Maybe Trump met that he would be doing FAT checking.
He’s at a place where extra weight is quite the handicap. I lost twenty pounds last year and believe me, that is enough to where you do feel lighter and things really are easier on your joints, your heart, all that.
so, he is proposing to do this rebuttal where? not on TV, unless I missed something. on TruthSocial? to his rather measly number of followers? or is this what he talked to Musk about, and he does it on Twitter video, pushed out to everyone by Musk?
Maybe they can call it an “alternative fact-check”.
