Trump’s Cronies Had Better Have Deep Pockets

I am SO loving this! Since the start of the J6 committee hearing, there has been a deep bench of former sycophants who are thrilled to prove their fealty to Glorious Bleater by defying subpoenas from the J6 committee. It’s like a badge of honor for them.

They’re doing it for two reasons. One, they know that the power of a House subpoena is limited. If they defy the subpoena, the House has no recourse other toan to hold a vote to hold them in Contempt of Congress and forward it to the DOJ for prosecution. The second reason is that the J6 committee is under a time crunch, and like Traitor Tot, they can try to run out the clock.

But some of these morons, like Andy Biggs, Peter Navarro, and Mo Brooks have a brand new, completely different problem to worry about. Because they’re starting to get subpoenas that have nothing to do with the J6 committee. They’re starting to get subpoenas from the FBI to appear before a grand jury to give testimony, as well as to submit documents and data.

And that’s a Whole nother kettle of fish! Because, Because while defying a House subpoena requires the DOJ to take action to enforce not the subpoena, but to punish the refusal to honor it, when the DOJ itself actually issues a subpoena, it cuts out the middleman. You either honor the subpoena, or you go to the clink. It’s just that simple.

Which is the situation that several former Trump cronies now find themselves in. Anyone who has ever listened to Peter Navarro speak already knows that he’s a moron. What’s the old legal axiom? Oh, yeah, A client who defends himself in court has a fool for a lawyer. And moron Peter Navarro is defending himself in fighting the subpoena to appear in front of the federal grand jury. And his defense is exactly what you’d expect from a mental puddlehead like Navarro, The DOJ’s subpoena is based on information uncovered by the J6 committee. And since the J6 committee is illegitimate, then the DOJ’s subpoena is illegitimate.

Riiiiight. Everybody who watches the news knows that the J6 committee’s investigation and the DOJ’s investigation are totally separate. The public has been screaming for over a year that the DOJ was dragging their heels on their investigation while the J6 committee was full speed ahead. And recent reporting tells that the DOJ has its nose bent out of shape because the J6 committee won’t just turn over the transcripts of all of their interviews. Good luck with that one, Pete!

But there are more Trump troglodytes out there that have been served with, or will be served with DOJ subpoenas. And I can only imagine that most of them are smarter than Peter Navarro, and will hire professional representation. And if they decide to fight the subpoenas, then they had damn well better have deep pockets.

The Department of Justice doesn’t fuck around. They don’t need to, after all, they have a budget larger than most small countries GDP. They can run the courtroom gamut, forcing defendants to appear over and over again, and best yet, if a judge finds that a defendant unlawfully defied a federal subpoena, he can clap them in the pokey until they comply.

Trump treated both his political career as well as his presidency as nothing more than a game to fluff his ego and enrich himself. And in the process, simply by the fact that he continued to get away with it over and over again, his minions got to feel just as protected. But there’s a new sheriff in town, and no Godfather in the White House to issue blanket pardons. It’s a brave new world.
