I’m sure that the former Secretary of the Treasury and his wannabe movie star wife will be shocked when they wake up in their Bel Aire mansion today and realize that Donald Trump has trashed Steve Mnuchin, even to the point of mocking his name, with quotes and a funny spelling. And what did Mnuchin do? He failed to have a crystal ball and realize that Trump and Jerome Powell would go at each other years down the line.

That’s not the real reason Trump is upset. There is no issue with the buildings costing too much. That was shown recently when Trump did a photo op with Powell and Powell said that Trump was referencing another construction estimate, altogether, which included another building. But hey, that was the Lie Du Jour and it’s still the lie and will continue to be the lie.
And of course it’s interesting that Trump praised the nomination of Powell back in the day and took complete credit for it himself. Now it turns out that it’s Mnuchin’s screw up and Mnuchin “appointed” Powell — which he couldn’t have done if he wanted to. He doesn’t have the authority, only the president does.
And whether Trump knows that or not is immaterial. the point is that he’s making Jerome Powell’s nomination sound like something done against his will and that is patently absurd. And this is because Trump can’t ever ever admit to making a mistake of any kind.
I wonder if Mnuchin will respond to this? I’m keeping an ear to the ground.
