The mental landscape of Donald Trump must resemble a cross between Salvador Dali and Hieronymus Bosch (whose slightly modified image of Hell tops this piece.) In Trump’s mind, he’s a very popular president, he’s done more than any other president in history in the two and a half years he’s been in office, and black Americans, in particular, simply love him to death. In fact, they’ve been ringing the White House phones off the hook, gushing with praise of his honesty and integrity. Here, let Trump tell it. Daniel Dale, CNN:
“What I’ve done for African Americans, no president, I would say, has done. Now, I’ll say this: they are so happy, because I get the calls,” he told reporters as he left for a speech in Virginia that was boycotted by black state lawmakers. “They are so happy at what I’ve been able to do in Baltimore and other Democratic-run, corrupt cities.”–He continued later: “The African American people have been calling the White House. They have never been so happy as what a president has done. Not only the lowest unemployment in history for African Americans, not only opportunity zones for, really, the biggest beneficiary the inner city, and not only criminal justice reform. But they’re so happy that I pointed out the corrupt politics of Baltimore. It’s filthy dirty. It’s so horrible. And they are happy as hell.”
Now here are the cold hard facts:
Exit polls of the 2016 election found that Trump received 8% of votes cast by African Americans, with 89% of them choosing Democrat Hillary Clinton. Opinion polls in the subsequent two-and-a-half years have found that he remains highly unpopular among African Americans._Trump began talking negatively about Cummings and Baltimore in a series of tweets on July 27. In a Quinnipiac University poll conducted from July 25 to July 28 — two days before the tweets, the day of the tweets, and one day after the tweets — Trump had a 6% approval rating and 84% disapproval rating with black voters. Eighty percent of black voters said Trump is racist, while just 11% said he is not.–A Fox News poll conducted from July 21 to July 23 had Trump at 75% disapproval among black registered voters, with 22% approval. In a Washington Post/ABC News poll conducted June 28 to July 1, 81% of African Americans said they disapproved; 18% approved. Both of those approval numbers were substantially better than the one in the new Quinnipiac poll, but still: On the whole, large majorities of African Americans were displeased with him.
Trump’s not doing himself any favors with black voters, with his attacks on The Squad and Elijah Cummings, despite his fantastic confabulations about how black voters love him, which are not backed up by any data whatsoever — including stats about who’s calling the White House. The mythical black callers are in the same league with the ranks of invisible FBI employees, who allegedly called the White House in droves to validate Trump for firing James Comey. That never took place either. Trump loves to fantasize supporters and people who praise him. And apparently Trump believes that black voters are going to vote against their own interests and pull the lever for a flaming, unabashed racist. I guess we’re going to find out how realistic that idea is soon enough.

I don’t know a single black person with a good word to say about him, but then I live in California. We hate him here. I wonder if he can even get on the ballot now. Gov. Newsome just signed a bill that a presidential candidate needs to present five years worth of tax returns. I wonder if Trump will just blow off California? This will be amusing.

Trump IS blindingly stupid and totally involved with feeding the narcissism monster in his head, no place in there left for things like compassion, empathy, sympathy or common sense, and absolutely no room for smart international decisions and/or communication skills at any level, an extremely limited intelligence and a 4th grade vocabulary that drifts up and down as his rants/tweets show the responses used by a 2 year old out in the sand box …
Now, about his current failures at telling the truth and blasting POC and using obvious racist tactics, coupled with full on lies about his admirers among the African-Americans …. and where are the phone calls going?
It all has to swing around and bite his ample A**, could there be a more pervasive reason to vote for someone else?
I hope that his ploy to gin up the racist base and somehow win the election from that blows up in his face. Maybe it won’t. Maybe America is completely racist. I don’t think so, but then I never thought that Trump would get elected in the first place.

I saw a good panel response to this, but can’t remember who said it because I was flipping between channels today. (Reluctantly…tomorrow the electronics get bleached to disinfect the CNN).
Anyway, the comment was that Trump discusses African Americans in the same way a defensive plantation owner would have. That sounds right.
That line is getting around, because I read it somewhere myself. That’s about the size of it.
