This is one of those forest for the trees kind of moments, what you’re about to see. Donald Trump began lying from minute number one of his term of office. That’s got to be some kind of a record. Whatever partisan differences people may hold, I think we’re all willing to concede that the men who have held the presidency (and so far it’s only been men) were at the very least well intentioned on the day that they put their hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States. At least I would like to believe that the presidents prior to Trump wanted to be the president for all Americans and took the job seriously.
Trump was never there to do that. First of all, I will go to my grave believing that he never intended to win or believed he could win. Nobody was more surprised to win than he was. The post-election plan at that time was for Trump to join with Steve Bannon and form Trump TV. That was destined to be an anti-Hillary organ and would have made Fox News look like PBS, from all that we could gather at the time about the tenor of the operation that Bannon conceived. But then something unexpected happened and this is what we ended up with, the reality TV actor’s first lie.

He had no intention of defending the Constitution. He’s never read the Constitution, wouldn’t know where to find such a thing, if you paid him to tell you. He was there to grift and that hasn’t changed. The only thing that has changed, and substantially so, is that Trump is taking a third crack at a second term so that he can destroy his enemies. He plans to destroy his enemies and to destroy America’s standing on the world stage.
Vladimir Putin is all for this. Trump carries on about how there were “no wars” when he was in office. There was no need for war. Putin was patiently waiting for Trump to pull out of NATO. Putin had zero intention of upending the apple cart when Trump was in office, are you kidding? And Trump would have pulled out of NATO had he been reelected in 2020 and he will pull out of NATO if and when he’s elected in 2024. You can set your clock by that.
Likewise, Trump went on and on about the Abraham Accords. That was no miracle cure. Within nine months of the signing of the Accords, the Jews and Palestinians were back to bombing. That was pretty much the pre-Accords schedule. Nothing changed, except that Trump and his son-in-law “my star” “my genius” Jared Kushner got a photo op and some good right-wing press.
And make no mistake, this isn’t only about Trump v. America, this is even more fundamental than that. This is about Truth v. Lies. Trump lied over 30,000 times when in office, not to even mention his Big Lie about the election being stolen. He’s lying about something today. He will break his record for lies if elected in 2024.
Let’s hope there are more Americans than Trumpkins and that we can keep our country. You recall when Benjamin Franklin was asked, “What kind of a country is this?” and Franklin replied, “A republic. If you can keep it.”
We stand at the crossroads of losing the republic as never before. And with sublime irony, it’s the Republican party that can’t wait to toss it all away and embrace fascism.

What if (humor me here) he had his financial records from Deutsche Bank bound to LOOK like a Bible, and that’s what he swore his oath on!
