This is a pretty kettle of fish. Trump decided not to do something, and it will backfire on him. This particular thing could possibly be something positive coming from him to boost his fading poll numbers. It would have had a good effect on the country. It would have shown as something material. But nope, he dropped the ball, and it broke. Sorry not sorry. Dude needs to actually think of things and their effects on the country. With admiration for Raw Story:

Republican infighting broke out Saturday as Democrats presented a unified front celebrating a bipartisan bill that President Donald Trump allowed to pass at midnight by refusing to either veto or sign it. The ROAD to Housing Act, described by CNN as a “sweeping” bipartisan bill to tackle housing affordability, spurred cheers of joy from Democrats and a scattered, sometimes hostile, response from Republicans.

Trump was having a tantrum. That is obvious. He doesn’t seem to comprehend it’s very important stuff. These tantrums are getting more frequent. By refusing to sign it, a whole bunch of Republicans are going to get pulled down with him. And he doesn’t care! He absolutely does not care.  If Democrats could only flip Congress, we could get some things done. Things like Oh, hmmm, impeaching Trump? We certainly have battleground states. There are a couple of seats that we really need to flip. But this beautiful, bipartisan housing bill became law because Trump wouldn’t sign, so the length of days before it became law means it’s now up and rolling !!!

The law caps the number of single-family homes big investors can buy, allows developers to skip an environmental review for properties between two previously reviewed buildings, and creates a grant program communities can use to develop preapproved housing designs, according to NPR.

This notion received an indirect rebuttal from Fox News correspondent Chad Pergram, who pointed to the bill’s 358-32 win in the House and its 85-5 victory in the Senate.   “It takes two-thirds to override a veto in both chambers,” he said. “Thus, the House and Senate both had supermajorities capable of overriding the President’s veto to convert this bill into law.” Pergram also acknowledged that such action was rare.

Can we mark it on our calendars and have a party? Someone at *Fox News* actually said something good? It’s stunning! Good of him to shout out the bill. Perhaps he took a hard look at what this was and realized that this could help everyone in America benefit from this. We’re getting a better chance of maybe someday having a house of our very own. Bipartisan super majorities. This really is a big deal. For once, Congress has done something for the people of this country.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-NC) did not name Trump in his response, but he did throw support behind the bill the president refused to sign. //// Meanwhile, Democrats both celebrated the bill’s passage and slammed Trump for failing to support it in a bid to pressure Congress to pass his SAVE America Act voter ID bill. //// Among those to celebrate was Rep. Jonathan L. Jackson (D-IL). “At midnight, the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act became law—despite President Trump holding the bill hostage and refusing to sign it.”

Mike Nellis, former Kamala Harris campaign advisor, professed himself confused by Trump’s tactics. “Again, it’s bafflingly stupid that Donald Trump let a housing bill become law without signing it, ensuring he gets no credit for it,” said Nellis. “It’s literally the only thing they’ve done on affordability, and he managed to completely disown it.”

Yep. Trump ignored a golden opportunity. It’s going to haunt him, some way, somehow. The worse he looks, the better off we are. He had the housing bill. He could have made something out of this. Bipartisan, helps the people of America, and all his other blathering. He’s fixated on the damn SAVE America bill that affects people who want to vote. It’s ridiculous. Tedious, and a lot of people are getting annoyed at the wait.  But the housing bill has passed, so we’ve actually made some progress, and it’s about damn time.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. Are we surprised?? Trumplestilskin plans no more than 5 minutes ahead, never considers a second option, and acts like a spoiled brat when things don’t go his way. His misguided and ignorant attempt to hold up this legislation is exactly what we expect. He probably believed the legislation wouldn’t become law without his scawl on it, and either all attempts by staff to correct that mistake fell on deaf ears, or no one there even tried to do so.

    Either way, the country won.
