Praise the Lawd and pass the ammunition! This is a big loss for Trump. Wonderful! And everything considered, it’s something that Trump Will. Not. Like. It was something the DOJ refused to do, which is *very* surprising in this day and age of Trump’s Attack Dog. It’s not gone away completely, but for right now, at least, it’s stopped.
Trump considers this man to be an enemy because he wouldn’t do what Trump demanded. He stood up to the pressure extremely well. Instead, Trump went after him for the cost overruns on the redo/refurb of the building. He wants Jerome Powell to go down and is extremely crabby that, for now, cross your fingers, he isn’/t.
You see, Powell wouldn’t cut the percentage on the Fed rate because it would hurt more than it helped. Trump kept pushing on him for quite some time. Usually, the rate reduction helps inflation, but with everything else going on, in Powell’s experience, which we know was long in the position as the Fed leader, it wasn’t going to do any good. He did eventually lower it a quarter point. It made no difference.
What *would* make a difference is ending the Forever War, Iran edition, and tariffs. It doesn’t look like either of those are going to end any time soon, which is bloody damn frustrating for the people of America. This does not include the gazillionaires. It never does, because they are sitting pretty with their money and their influence, especially about AI. No, wait, beg your pardon, superintelligence. That’s a stupid name change, and it will remain AI here. Superintelligence actually sounds *much* worse because it’s intimidating.
Now, with recognition of Raw Story, here are some quotes:
The Justice Department has declined to reopen its criminal investigation into former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over cost overruns tied to the central bank’s headquarters renovation, dealing a setback to President Trump’s long-running effort to see his frequent target prosecuted. The move follows a Wednesday finding from the Fed’s own inspector general, which concluded there were no grounds for a criminal referral and no evidence of administrative misconduct tied to the overruns. At his final press conference as chair in April, Powell said he intended to stay on the Fed’s board until the investigation was “well and truly over, with transparency and finality.”
We know full well that the overruns on the building were because it’s old, to put it mildly, and it needed more than originally estimated. Trump is going after Powell because of a building. He had to find something to prosecute Powell because he stood up to Trump. He was then added to Trump’s Revenge Tour™ because of both the building and the lack of bowing to Trump’s threats.
Trump’s demands for prosecutions are out of control. That’s ridiculous. He should be spending that time on the issues of the people. MAGA is quietly slipping away. The problems of the country are not getting redirected by his screams late at night and early in the morning.
The moral of the story is: Jerome Powell finished his term at the Fed. Todd Blanche stated that they are not going to start a new investigation. Trump is mad about it since Powell is one of the people on the list of those Trump wants prosecuted. We can count this as a win for now. We’ll take it.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
