Trump Is Teasing An “Event” That Will Make Everything Wonderful With the GOP, Incredibly

It’s definitely smoky back room time, folks. One of Matt Gaetz’ main criticisms of Kevin McCarthy is that he’s a creature of the swamp, and McCarthy is a man who plays the Washington game. That’s a fact. He didn’t get where he is by being a leader, that much is certain.

There are lots of swamp creatures out tonight, far more than you’re liable to find on the late late show.

Kevin McCarthy is going to get the Speaker’s gavel or die trying and he may just have found a way. I think that’s what Trump is talking about. If you haven’t already, click this link to Murfster’s article on what McCarthy has up his sleeve. I think that’s what Trump is alluding to here.

I think the “event” is McCarthy persuading House members to show up and vote present but not cast a vote. But as Murf pointed out, that course of action is fraught with peril and that’s putting it mildly.

But it’s incredibly dangerous for one simple reason. Because McCarthy only has 202 votes. He needs to change 12 votes, and then massage enough present votes to make 213 enough. Because the problem is that Democrat Hakeem Jeffries has gotten 212 votes on every single ballot. And if one single GOP House vote fucks up, if McCarthy doesn’t get to 213 votes, but the presents drop the ratio to 212 votes, then it’s Hello Speaker Jeffries!

As I said, read Murf’s piece. There’s no sense to redo the analysis here. It sounds utterly bonkers to me, but McCarthy is a desperate, cornered man and people in that state of mind will do anything.

I think that this is what Trump is alluding to. I daresay he’s punching out phone numbers with his little thumbs, as we speak, so that he can help McCarthy in this endeavor. Frankly, I think that’s an effort in futility. Nobody is listening to Trump anymore. He has no power. If he had the power to persuade, McCarthy wouldn’t be in this mess.

But, let’s see them all go through the motions anyhow.

I wonder how the families of the 45 freshman members are doing, as they see if they can afford yet one more day at the Red Roof Inn and ask their office managers to extend their days off, so they can see their relative sworn into Congress. Not one thought about them. What a mess.
