The guardrails are finally gone. Trump and that speech have put America into trouble. He’s the face of America. We are no longer a world leader, not really. With him at the wheel, everything is nuts. Whatever he does reflects on us. If only that 1.5% hadn’t put him back in office. But they did, and now we have to shovel a whole lot of crap. It will take decades to repair our relationships with our allies, and possibly twice that long for Canada and Mexico. The whole tariff thing is ridiculous. He just *will not* understand that it hurts both countries.
But that UN speech. Oh my, my, my. The effect of that is going to reverberate and ripple outside the US. This idiot talked about genocide at the *UN*. He’s lost it. He has just flat-out lost it. It will take years to find out how much we have been ostracized. And for the bonus, he has told the UN that they can’t use the description artificial intelligence. He said the name is being changed to superintelligence because AI sounds fake. What? They want safeguards for AI. He wants to change the name and the description.
Paul Krugman has some thoughts on this. Thanks to Raw Story:
“Isn’t the bigger story the fact that the leader of what used to be the world’s most powerful nation — I say ‘used to be’ because America’s power is collapsing before our eyes — has clearly and undeniably lost his mind?” he wrote. Krugman noted he first raised the “sundowning” comparison eight months ago and said nothing since has changed his assessment — a warning he’s repeated in recent months. He argued that makes Trump more dangerous, not less, especially if Republicans lose Congress in the midterms.
Even stripped of legislative power, Krugman warned, “Mad King Donald” won’t accept blame. “He won’t feel that he has failed America; he will believe that America has failed him and try to punish the nation accordingly,” Krugman wrote, predicting Trump would turn vindictively on both Democrats and ordinary Americans. Should Democrats retake the White House in 2028, Krugman cautioned, they’d inherit “a badly damaged nation.”
That does not give us warm fuzzy feelings of confidence; quite the opposite. He will be president for another two years, and not only does he have that, but he could potentially call the rioters back into Washington so he can stay president. Don’t pooh-pooh me, please. He’s staged an insurrection once. His brain power is fading, so if he whines to the J6ers, there’s no telling what will happen. We can only hope he gets bad enough that he truly has no power left and the 25th Amendment can truly be used. But for right now, he’s president. It can only get worse from here. At least until midterms.

We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love.
