A lot to unpack here, folks, make no mistake. As you are well aware, Elon Musk officially announced on July 5 that he was launching the American Party, a third major political party in these United States. At least that is Musk’s intention, that it should be such. So we got crickets from Trump by way of a response. Everybody waited, curious to see what his reaction was. His reaction is to blow up at Musk in a Truth Social post that goes on and on and on, like the Energizer Bunny.Â
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – The System seems not designed for them,” Trump wrote. “The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds!”
Trump went on to say, “Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running ‘machine,’ that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country.”
“It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time,” Trump claimed. “I have been strongly opposed to that from the very beginning. People are now allowed to buy whatever they want – Gasoline Powered, Hybrids (which are doing very well), or New Technologies as they come about – No more EV Mandate. I have campaigned on this for two years and, quite honestly, when Elon gave me his total and unquestioned Endorsement, I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate – It was in every speech I made, and in every conversation I had. He said he had no problems with that – I was very surprised!”
Trump continued:
“Additionally, Elon asked that one of his close friends run NASA and, while I thought his friend was very good, I was surprised to learn that he was a blue blooded Democrat, who had never contributed to a Republican before. Elon probably was, also. I also thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the Space Business, run NASA, when NASA is such a big part of Elon’s corporate life.”
“My Number One charge is to protect the American Public!” Trump concluded.
Trumpty is not happy with Elon. He’s making “traitor” noises, both in accusing Elon of creating chaos with a third political party and in suggesting that his buddy the Democrat might not be the right guy for NASA.
They decide their narrative first, and then make up the details as they go along.

If Trump really believed that the American Party would hurt Democrats, I tend to think that he would be playing his cards differently. He also makes it sound like Musk is retaliating because of the EV portion of the Big Beautiful Bill. That doesn’t hold water. At worst, the electric vehicle issue could be a setback for Musk, but it’s highly unlikely that Musk would decide to start a new political party based on that one issue alone. That makes no sense.
Musk has basically thrown down the gauntlet to Trump across the boards. He’s challenging not only Trump but the BBB, which he has vociferously opposed, and the GOP itself. Musk is still smarting from the collapse of DOGE.
For a brief period of time, Musk attacked Trump openly on social media. Then he printed a retraction a few weeks ago, saying that some of his comments were “too extreme.” And now he’s out there front and center with his new political party, the day after the BBB is signed.
So think it through: If Trump thought that the American Party would hurt Democrats, he would be gloating to beat the band. That’s exactly what Trump needs, is something to bleed votes away from the Democrats. He doesn’t see that in the American Party.
What he does see — or why else would he be whining? — is that Musk could pick up support from MAGAs who find themselves hurting when they’re bounced off of Medicaid, SNAP, the local rural hospital closes and they’re left without, any one of numerous scenarios which could befall the poor right now.
Mike Johnson spent the entire day today trying to convince people that the Democrats are making up stories about Medicaid being cut, but no, in fact Medicaid is being cut. And SNAP. And Scott Bessent is telling poor people, “Go out and get a job.” Great idea, Scott. Over 30,000 jobs got cut last month when the projection was that three times that many would be created. So where are these terrific jobs, or any jobs, to be found exactly?
Trump’s running scared. That’s the good news. Just the length of the post, going on and on, tells you what you need to know. Musk is the monster to Trump’s Dr. Frankenstein. Trump created him. Now Trump gets to watch him wreak havoc all across the countryside. And once some old gal with diabetes can’t buy her insulin, or some MAGA family can’t get to an ER with a bad injury, because the hospital is closed, or lack of SNAP benefits is felt, people will be looking for a scapegoat and a solution. MAGA will be the scapegoat and the American Party will be the solution. Which means votes bled away from the Republicans.
Elon has said over and over again that it’s the US debt that’s the problem for him.
The markets will have their say on BBB this coming week. I have a feeling that by Friday trump will be in a very bad mood.
Elon himself was opposed to ev subsidies in the past so not the problem. as instrumental says he was opposed to the debt added and believes the solution is even bigger spending cuts. I can see that appealing to a lot of gop politicians but not to many voters. it will be interesting to see if trump has the guts yo deal with musk. Bannon has told him what he can and should do. my money says he won’t though I would love to see it.
