While the bulk of attention is understandably on the middle east and the Strait of Hormuz, Trump’s ramping up his self-glorification in DC (and other places) has also been in the news. Now we’ve learned Trump has purged the entire six member board of the Presidio, a former military installation but now a National Park that sits at the southern side of the Golden Gate Bridge. (the approach road passes over it). I have to wonder, is this a prelude to Trump trying to rename The Presidio the “TRUMP Presidio as a prelude to trying to rename the Golden Gate Bridge the “Golden TRUMP Bridge?”
Keep in mind that he’s created a real mess overseas. It can be credibly argued he impulsively started the Iran war to distraction from Epstein. His steadily sinking approval rating kept sinking. Many people can turn their heads and not truly think about the Epstein files and all the ruined lives. However they can’t turn away from the higher prices they are paying for gas. And lots of other things impacted by higher gas/diesel prices. Polling shows Americans understand the latest increase in the cost of living is because of the Iran war. Incredibly (or maybe not as I think about it) Trump needs a distraction from the war he started to distract from the Epstein files! Whew. That’s a lot to take in but let’s face it. Trump is on a vanity project tear already and at least trying to rename the Golden Gate Bridge after himself would create one helluva reaction. And distraction!
I might be way the hell out over my skis but that was my reaction to UPI News reporting Trump’s firing of all six members of the Presidio Trust Board. It’s a short article that takes less than a minute to read. It tells us he’d already targeted them with a February 2025 Executive Order which contained language calling the Trust an “unnecessary governmental entity” and that is should be ‘reduced.’ Reduced? He freaking eliminated it which I guess means the National Park Service will be ordered by Trump to assume control. It’s not like they will stand up to him. However Nancy Pelosi, who’s kicked Trump’s butt more than once might have something to say about it…
For those who don’t know the Presidio of San Francisco was a military facility for most of it’s history. The Spanish created a fort on the spot in 1776, then Mexico gained control in 1820. We gained control in 1848. It’s played host to some important military commands since then, particularly during WWII. However the need for it was such that the military recommended it be part of a 1988 set of base reductions/closures. In 1996 Congress established the Presidio Trust to manage the 80% part of the interior land and gave control of 20% along the coast to the National Park Service. The Trust was supposed to become financially self-supporting by 2013 but beat that target by eight years. So much for government being unable to do anything well! The Presidio sits in Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi’s district and it’s become a treasure place enjoyed by a lot of visitors. I suspect she’ll be up for a fight against a Trumpian makeover.
I’m convinced that that’s what Trump has in mind. A blatant f**k you to San Francisco, the city conservatives love to hate, AND in the state they love to hate. Trump is already on a tear of tacky-assed ‘Trumpifying’ things and until now the west coast has been spared. But he wants the whole country redone in his image and as I said he is on a roll.
He renamed (which according to the act of Congress that created it) the Kennedy Center for starters. He’s made all kind of tacky changes to the White House grounds (paving the Rose Garden, blinging out the Oval Office with fake gold crap and adding fake gold lettering to passage ways. Recently we’ve seen DeSantis sucking up to him renaming Palm Beach International Airport (which he uses to commute between DC and Mar A Lago), the huge and tacky “Arch de Trump” in DC, and a cryptic post about the West Wing has sparked fears tearing down the east wing of the WH an entire new west wing (renamed Trump Wing?) might be in the works. He tried to get the train station in NYC renamed for him. The list goes on but the point is it’s mostly been out east.
However with the firing of the entire Presidio Board I think it signals Trump intends to force himself and his totally lacking in class taste out west. Frankly I’m surprised he hadn’t renamed beloved Yellowstone National Park Trump Golden Stone! So maybe I’m just crazy but think about it. GOLDEN Gate Bridge? Tell me you don’t think Trump hasn’t looked at that stunningly beautiful bridge and the word “Golden” in the title and thought about his own love of all things gold. Some time back when commenting on Trump’s DC arch I suggested something to the effect if he can’t get his stupid arch in DC approved he might turn his attention to St. Louis’ Gateway Arch – so named as the ‘Gateway to the American West. Trump probably looks down from Air Force One and thinks that stainless steel structure is UGLY and should be GOLD colored instead. If he can’t build his stupid arch in DC it’s easy enough to imagine that in ruby red Missouri he could get the Gateway Arch torn down and replaced with the ‘TRUMP Arch – Gateway To Trump’s American West!
Well, getting back on point this asshat Trump’s ego is soooooo HUGE I don’t think it’s at all crazy to think Trump believes two things. First, the Golden Gate Bridge should be rename. For Him. The Golden TRUMP Bridge. Second that in addition to putting his name up in great big letters on both ends, the whole thing should be painted GOLD. I think if he announces he intends to do it he’ll be serious.
However getting back to the here and now Trump badly needs a distraction. With his intention to have our Navy start blocking passage through the Strait of Hormuz a little later today the war with Iran will enter it’s most dangerous stage and could spiral out of control. So Trump needs a distraction and a damned big one. A fresh outrage to grab people’s attention. What I’ve suggested here would, for a little while at least do just that. So, if this unfolds the way I think it might remember you heard it here on Politizoom first. (And tell people you know)
