Politics has always been about lying and puffery to some extent. But valid politicians keep all that to a minimum, if at all. Political capital is dear and you don’t want to squander your credibility by telling stupid lies. Unless you’re Donald Trump. All that he does is tell stupid lies. And miraculously, because of his fourteen years of playing a fantasy success character, his lies are believed. I have no doubt that psychologists and sociologists of the future will marvel over these times even as we do. In this clip Trump repeated yet another lie, a lie about a lie, namely that his promise to end the war in Ukraine would take place “the first 24 hours” he was back in office. That was “sarcastic” we are now told.

And yes, it is exactly like how Trump dealt with healthcare. He didn’t know how complicated that was, either. The lesson here is that the man is an idiot and that’s been the lesson for the past ten years but half the country can’t see it. That is the mesmerizing, stupifying part. And he’s lying through his teeth about India. Again. Does anybody remember this?

This is vintage Trump. He just lies and lies and the only thing that will stop him in his tracks would be if reporters would fact check him in real time. But they’re terrified to do that. And since both ABC and CBS have rolled over on bogus lawsuits that were easily winnable, just to appease the maniac, that makes a lot of sense. And don’t forget political journalist Terry Moran who got fired from ABC a few weeks ago simply for posting a tweet on how hateful Stephen Miller and Trump were. That’s like saying the sky is blue, but Moran is gone from ABC.
Everything has moved to the default two weeks, because Trump is just muddling his way through this all. That’s how it’s always been. It’s the collective ignorance, nay, willful stupidity of his cult that has always floored me.
Trump has tapped into something. We saw that from the beginning back in 2015. The vitriol, the violence at his rallies, from the get go. Trump is not only the Republican id, he represents the underbelly of America, the deplorables, as Hillary cast them. Well, the deplorables are back in power and more deplorable than ever.
But this BBB travesty is what will take them down. The rumblings are already beginning. A woman with a child who suffers from cerebral palsy cried out on television yesterday, “My child will die,” because the child is a Medicaid recipient. That may be the first casuality, heaven forbid it happens, but it won’t be the one and only.
Trump killed 1.1 million people during the COVID pandemic. I wonder how many he’ll kill with Medicaid deprivation, SNAP deprivation, not to mention all the lives being ruined by ICE for suspected infractions of immigration law. Those “infractions” have extended to ICE officers breaking into peoples’ homes in the middle of the night only to discover that they’re in the wrong house and the people they’re accosting are United States citizens.
This isn’t the Golden Age promised, it’s the dross age. And Trump is the dross idol.
Welcome to the 30s in Hitler’s Germany. Somehow we’ve had so much smoke blown up our collective arses over the history of this country…we can’t tell our ass from our elbow. Ignorance is no excuse after watching trump for the past decade. Willful ignorance also usually leads to disaster. We’re right on schedule. So much for our self described special role in humanity’s destiny.
The republican party’s stance on public education has a lot to do with the collective ignorance of the general public. To my knowledge, they have been bad mouthing and undermining public education since the early 80’s, maybe longer. Not to mention their strangle hold on talk radio and others.
