We’ve turned an interesting corner in our culture. Traditionally, all hang upon the words of the president of the United States, not just here but abroad. That is no longer the case. So much of what comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth is such sheer idiocy that people tune it out. I confess to being amazed yesterday at a piece I posted on Trump’s vast innate abilities as a musician, his “genius” gift, which he revealed just yesterday. Nobody read it. Nobody cares. Think about that for a minute: the sitting president of the United States goes on record as having a gift that a fraction of one percent of the population has — and the result is yawning indifference? Evidently so.

Bearing that in mind, if nobody is roused by this latest rambling, it won’t be surprising in the least. And where will this end? Trump being the boy who cried wolf and nobody listens to anything? Not even when he threatens to break the seal on the nuclear codes and start launching?

Like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel, Trump can’t get the windmills out of his mind. They haunt his dreams, never ending or beginning on an ever spinning reel.

That’s the only answer. The windmills should be in the cat litter boxes and construction should begin immediately. Anybody here know how the Dutch have fared all these many years? They’ve got windmills all over the place. They’ve also got poppy fields, maybe there’s some connection there. Maybe if Trump could harvest a little opium, the windmills wouldn’t concern him so much. Maybe he could talk to Elon about that.

A couple of things are obvious here:

  1. Trump’s got nothing of depth or substance on his mind, which is ironic considering the world situation not to mention the economy slowly unraveling, with jobs creation slowing down;
  2. Trump got a call from the oil and gas mega donors;
  3. Anything to deflect from the corner he’s painted himself in this week with the mismanagement of troops in Los Angeles;
  4. Things are going to get a lot crazier before they get better.

Where are we going next, back to sharks and batteries? And with all this going on, it’s supposedly the case that Joe Biden and his people were conspiring to conceal his mental acuity issues. If there is a greater irony than that, I would love to know what it is.

  1. Accurate on 2 fronts
    1. Well cited: “Like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel, Trump can’t get the windmills out of his mind. They haunt his dreams, never ending or beginning on an ever spinning reel.”
    2. Except for your counting:

    • Not sure what you mean by “Except for your counting.” If you’re taking issue with “couple” being used for 4 specific items, well, YOU are in the wrong.

      The third definition (in English) for “couple” is given as “(informal) A small number.” This is then augmented by a “Usage note” that reads

      The very widespread use of the same expression (e.g. “a couple of people”) to mean any small number is often considered informal but is in fact very old and often considered unobjectionable on all levels of style, sometimes even contradictorily by the same publication that labels this use as informal elsewhere on the same page, e.g. The American Heritage Dictionary.
      The farm is a couple of miles off the main highway [= a few miles away].
      We’re going out to a restaurant with a couple of friends [= a few friends].
      Wait a couple of minutes [= a few minutes].

      I’d ask if you’ve NEVER actually used “couple” in this sense or if, for instance, you’ve gone to a restaurant and been told it would be a couple of minutes for your table to be ready, and 4 or 5 minutes have passed and you’re still waiting and you’ve been rude to the host or hostess by DEMANDING to be seated since it’s been more than a (literal) couple of minutes?

      Considering the Grand Old Master of dictionaries gave in a bit more than a decade ago on the “literally” issue and agreed to define it as “figuratively,” I think your nitpicking (and I’m a big fan of nitpicking) isn’t really all that warranted. Especially when YOU wrote “Accurate on 2 fronts” and then you LITERALLY argued the second point (front) was NOT “accurate.”

  2. How about a beanie with a prop on top? An anti-MAGA cap that would drive the orange ignoramus mad. Oops, sorry, he’s already there. They actually used to make these things way back in the 30’s or 40’s, I think. Not sure what the meme was way back then, but everything old is new again.

    I read your story on trump’s musical gift, Ursula, and laughed. Do you think we could get him to do a flute accompaniment to Lara singing “I won’t back down?” It would drive the tom cats in my neighborhood crazy.

  3. Trump singing to the tune of John Denver’s song Sunshine:
    Windmills…Off the coastline, make me angry
    Windmills…On the land, they make me cry
    Windmills…Just keep spinning, I can’t stop them
    Windmills…Make wish, I’d up and die

  4. Like you said, maybe he got a call from his oil and gas people. It’s actually the abandoned oil and gas wells that are polluting the air and ground water. All the neglected pump-jacks rusting away. This diverts attention away from them.

  5. Windmills contain magnets
    Windmills are outside
    Outside gets wet
    Therefore, magnets get wet
    Everyone knows that magnets don’t work when they get wet

  6. He makes the character Forrest Gump look like Einstein. Sorry Forrest…one…you have to give up the title stupidest son of a bitch; two…at the very least you had a good heart and knew what love is. This evil moron has neither.
