Like the song says, “a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.” Certainly that’s true in Mad King Donald’s case. The fact of the matter is that Trump’s polls after 100 days are stunningly bad, compared with other administrations at this same point in time. But that’s not true, he wants you to know. He’s got killer polls, enviable polls, (99.9% approval rating at the border, how’s that for a poll, huh?) but the Negative Criminals who suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome are lying about the polls and putting fake ones in their place. And if anybody heard an explanation for failure like that coming from John Q. Normal, that person would find himself unemployed, if not in a strait jacket, forthwith. But this is perfectly normal coming from the occupant of the Oval Office. Charlie Pierce condensed it all down.
Trump’s approval ratings on economic issues have dropped notably since early March as the rollout of his tariff plan led to volatility in the stock market and worries about rising prices. On inflation, approval is down 9 points to 35%, and on tariffs themselves, it’s down 4 points to 35%. His marks for handling the economy are down 5 points to a career low of 39%; he hit his previous low once in his first term and again this March). Only about half (52%) express confidence in his ability to deal with the economy, down 13 points compared with a December CNN poll.
The president is taking this with his usual cool equanimity. From Truth Social:
Great Pollster John McLaughlin, one of the most highly respected in the industry, has just stated that The Failing New York Times Poll, and the ABC/Washington Post Poll, about a person named DONALD J. TRUMP, ME, are FAKE POLLS FROM FAKE NEWS ORGANIZATIONS. The New York Times has only 37% Trump 2024 voters, and the ABC/Washington Post Poll has only 34% Trump Voters, unheard of numbers unless looking for a negative result, which they are. These people should be investigated for ELECTION FRAUD, and add in the FoxNews Pollster while you’re at it. They are Negative Criminals who apologize to their subscribers and readers after I WIN ELECTIONS BIG, much bigger than their polls showed I would win, loose a lot of credibility, and then go on cheating and lying for the next cycle, only worse. They suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome, and there is nothing that anyone, or anything, can do about it. THEY ARE SICK, almost only write negative stories about me no matter how well I am doing (99.9% at the Border, BEST NUMBER EVER!), AND ARE TRULY THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE! We must save ourselves from Negative Criminals. Does that mean that there is such a thing as Positive Criminals, so criminals are like electrical charges? And they all revolve around a nucleus or something? This is the Trump Universe we are describing here, so only King Donald can explain its composition to us.
It won’t surprise you to learn that John McLaughlin is not one of the most respected pollsters in the business. McLaughlin got maybe as high as a C+ rating, but no way he was in the blue chip echelon of pollsters like Ann Selzer in Iowa, who were A+ rated. And it’s nothing short of hilarious that Trump has turned on the Fox News pollsters. Stephen Miller went so far as to demand live on air that Fox News fire its pollster.
“I don’t want to make things awkward for you, John, but it is our opinion that Fox News needs to fire its pollster,” Miller quipped during the live broadcast. “I won’t surprise you with that. I don’t think you are surprised that I’m saying that, but the Fox News pollster has always been wrong about President Trump.”
“They were the ones that said all summer long that Kamala Harris is gonna be the 47th president of the United States, so we don’t acknowledge any of that polling,” he continued, before moving on to the number of migrants crossing the border and how in “100 days” the Trump administration has achieved the “lowest border crossings in American history.”
Roberts later addressed Miller’s criticism and said, “Here at Fox News we stand by our polling as we always have.”
Fox News’ latest national poll, conducted between April 18-21, found that the president was standing at an overall 44 percent approval rating and 55 percent disapproval rating after his first 100 days.
The network’s poll discerned that voters were unhappy with most of Trump’s policies save for his handling of immigration. He earned a 47 percent approval, and 48 percent disapproval on immigration, while other factors like inflation, taxes, and tariffs saw disapproval ratings at above 50 percent.
Meanwhile, other news outlets similarly found Trump at staunch disapproval percentages with a joint poll from ABC News and The Washington Post finding him at a 55 percent disapproval rating, and another poll from The New York Times at 53 percent.
The president subsequently slammed the polling results in a Truth Social post Monday, and called for the news organizations to be investigated for election fraud.
And you saw that Truth Social post already. Not sure how a news organization can be investigated for election fraud for publishing a poll, but then again, consider the source. Mad King Donald is not doing well these days and it’s going to be somebody else’s fault, always.
Perhaps the positive criminals are those selling MAGA rubbish, selling altcoin, insider trading …
Maybe the malodorous stable genius needs to – if at all possible – come to understand that there is a truth, a truth beyond his comprehension, that helps swing a pendulum, that’ll come to eventually swat his kind of reptilian mob existence into the gutter. The only polls that matter are at the ballot box. He’ll try to fix those next year and bring in a Putin-style democracy. His EO’s and his campaign promises to fix the election system are the wake-up calls. He means it.
I hope people who want this jerk behind a set of congressional guard-rails (if not bars) and then out of office are listening. Get EVERYONE and the dog properly registered, and then get petitions for court orders to prevent his thugs from showing up at the polling stations ready.
