Donald Trump has a complicated relationship with the law and lawyers because he has a complicated relationship with the truth and those two things go hand in hand. The latest flare up in Trump world is the departure of lawyer, acolyte and spokeswoman Alina Habba, who is no longer counsel of record in the E. Jean Carroll case which is coming up for trial in April.

It’s unclear at this juncture if the departure of Habba is her idea or Trump’s or both. It could be that Habba decided that she didn’t need another joint sanction of $1 million.

That’s a bit rich for anybody’s blood but especially for somebody routinely characterized as a “parking lot lawyer.” On the other hand, she may make that kind of cash over at Newsmax or even Fox as Trump fades into the twilight of his political career.

And Trump’s got a right-wing superstar in the bullpen to replace Habba. I wonder if he paid him big money in advance, like he did with his white shoe defense lawyer in Florida, Chris Kise, who is representing his interests with respect to the execution of the search warrant on Mar-a-Lago. Washington Press:

Not only is the timing of the controversial attorney curious, but the former President’s choice of replacement is even more curious.

High-profile attorney, Joe Tacopina – who has represented the likes of rapper Meek Mill, and former New York Yankee player, Alex Rodriguez – is also the defense counsel for convicted Jan. 6th insurrectionist, Julian Khater.

Khater was recently sentenced to 80 months in prison for his role in the death of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick – whom Khater admitted to spraying with a toxic chemical during the attack.

Tacopina lists Fox News host Sean Hannity, the billionaire hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, and the now-deceased radio shock jock Don Imus, as clients.

Whither Trump goest, the legal circus follows, with the media circus in tow.

As stated often, with all these legal cases flying through the air like bats, I keep hoping that some judge, some jury throws the book at Trump for something. You’d think it would be the law of averages at this point.

  1. My prediction is that the FIRST thing this new lawyer will do is head to court and ask for a delay in the start of the trial – because he “just got the case and it’s complexities will require many months for him to get up to speed” on everything. You mentioned timing and my belief certainly lines up with Trump’s history. Delay, delay and delay some more. But judges have started to get fed up with his shit. Also, this new dude has as you noted represented some big-time clients and handled high-profile cases. He’s got both the chops and the staff to be ready by April. If he wants to be. I think, or at least hope the judge will tell him (and Trump) that. And if Tacopina and Trump whine about it maybe, just maybe the judge will remind them that it was Trump’s CHOICE to dump his former lawyer, and the new guy’s CHOICE to take the case. AND that if he made representations to Trump that the move would result in a delay of trial then the place for Trump to complain would be to the Bar that licensed his new lawyer!

  2. Why oh why does ANYONE think they will get paid by the totally flaccid Trump’s banks or stashes of cash … He is so far down in REAL money now, He is beginning to kiss Putin on the lips of treasonous mentions of trusting Putin over anyone around here …

His international statement while on national TV reporting of his meeting with Putin was that he took Putin’s word over our security system of intelligence reports and THAT was a treasonous statement to me then … BTW what WAS the secret meeting about anyway?

Trump has a LONG way to go, through the various States that want some of him for treatment of their local trade systems, NOT paying his workers …

THEN, if the DOJ gets finally busy lowering the boom, his hide will be scorched by the many truths he has avoided and ignored up to this time … the GOP, as screwed up as it is, will be facing a few of their own calls to justice, involving many in lacks of common sense, when supporting the orange faced Tic Tac expert … Grabber …
