Donald Trump lies all the time but there’s nothing like the lies he tells when he’s been totally flummoxed, as has been the case this weekend. A Democrat won a state race in a Deep Red district in Texas that Trump won by 17 points just this Saturday. Trump claims to know nothing about it but the lie is easily revealed.

In an upset that rattled Republicans in Texas and beyond, a Democrat decisively won a state legislative special election on Saturday in a district around Fort Worth that President Trump carried by more than 17 percentage points just over a year ago.
The Democrat, Taylor Rehmet, a local union leader and first-time candidate, defeated the Republican, Leigh Wambsganss, by double digits — 57 to 43 — in the historically conservative district.
The contest to fill a State Senate seat had been closely followed by national leaders from both parties as a barometer of potential Republican struggles in this year’s midterm elections.
It attracted outsized attention after Mr. Rehmet, 33, performed far better than expected in the first round of voting in November and ended up in the runoff. Since then, he received a surge of support from Democratic groups, including the Democratic National Committee.
A couple of thoughts come to mind, first of all that it is ill advised on Trump’s part to alienate Hispanics like he has. It was thought during the election that Trump was going to deport criminals in prison, not that he was going to fill the streets with ICE and have normal Americans harassed, let alone shot in the streets.
Secondly, Hispanics put Trump in office. Trump’s segment of Hispanic voters increased 20% in 2024 from 2020 and that put him over the top. It may also be that same segment that proceeds to bury the GOP if this special election is any kind of a bellwether.

‘Flummoxed’ is such a good descriptor, totally. And yes, the D win in Texas has rattled the Rs – comes down to trust, in some ways. The flummoxed one hasn’t got the trust of who he thinks he has, and that, by extension, is well and truly reflected in ‘his’ Texas loss. Here is an of interest history on trust, and where the flummoxed one sits on the timeline of history, as a plausible joiner in why the Texas win happened, amongst other valid reasons:
How the hell did ANY Hispanics rally to Trump between 2020 and 2024? I’m flummoxed.
