Y’all, this is intended to be factual, not negative. But you could take it the wrong way. *Please* don’t. I just read this fascinating article on AlterNet a number of times before I decided to write on it. And as I kept re-reading, I agreed with all the professionals who said he is sliding into dementia. So, here’s the start: “To ensure that the United States will always be led by a coherent, functioning President, the Twenty-Fifth Amendment provides for the prompt, orderly, and democratic transfer of executive power in the event the president is incapacitated, physically or mentally. Trump’s tariff debacle, where he thrust out his chest, flung economic incoherence at the world, then flip-flopped only two days later, was the strongest evidence yet, in a roiling sea of evidence, that he is mentally incapacitated.”
Yes, incapacitated. If you sit and think about it, didn’t tRump get less and less coherent as his campaign wore on? Remember “The Weave”? That was quite a way to cover up his loss of the ability to think and speak clearly. It gets more so every day. The flip-flopping on tariffs is a super good example. How about taxing the countries that don’t sell anything to us? What about taxing an island that was only populated by penguins? (That is going to keep me amused for quite some time. I’ll try and keep the jokes to a minimum.) Nobody bothered to check for errors before he blurted it out? That’s not just sloppy, it’s stupid. *No one* checked the list? That’s damn near criminal!!! And how about only “short-term” exceptions? What the h*ll does that mean?
Let’s hear from some professionals, shall we? From AlterNet: “Trump struggles to ‘even finish a sentence,’ Psychotherapist Dr. John Gartner, former Johns Hopkins University Medical School faculty,` explained in an interview with MindSite News, elaborating that, “When we’re diagnosing dementia, what we need to see is a deterioration of someone’s own baseline of functioning. What we see is that a lot of people don’t appreciate is that when Donald Trump was younger in the 1980s, he was actually quite articulate. His thoughts were logical and related; now they’re tangential. He goes off on these ramblings where he is confabulating things – weird things in which he’ll talk about Venezuelans and mental hospitals, and then he’ll talk about sharks and batteries or the late, great Hannibal Lector and Silence of the Lambs.” I kinda remember his first term as president. He was doing things to benefit himself, of course, the same money-grubbing shyster, but he wasn’t even close to the insanity that’s happening now.
Here’s something else, and I actually have this book. “With the assistance of other psychiatrists and credentialled mental health professionals, Dr. Bandy Lee wrote, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 37 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President, near the conclusion of Trump’s first presidency. In the book, psychiatric experts came forward due to what they saw as their professional moral and civic “duty to warn” America about Trump’s dementia. This duty, they argued, supersedes their competing professional duty of neutrality.” When the *pros* do something like this? We should pay attention.
“Leaders of the EU are too intelligent to sneer out loud at Trump’s flip-flop on tariffs. Aware of his deranged lust for revenge, they are reluctant to utter the truth about his economic ignorance. But the world is aware, even if Americans aren’t, that our president is deranged.” That’s sad and embarrassing. That’s why we have the 25th Amendment. *If* it happened, I’m not sure if JD Vance as President would be better or worse. He certainly has the same self-centered BS. My worst thought is that Agent Orange controls the nukes. Just him. How do we keep him away from that? Would any of his “advisors” get in the way? Nuclear wars are bad for everyone! Not to mention they don’t make any money…..
One last bit, again from Alternet: “Section 4 of the 25th Amendment allows the Vice President and either the Cabinet, or a body approved ‘by law’ formed by Congress, to jointly agree that ‘the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.’ Democrats need to proceed under this clause, and frightened Republicans need to join in before Trump commits another, potentially world-annihilating, blunder.” He has caused global destruction with his mindless tariff wars. He needs to be stopped. I seem to remember a news bite that some Democrats were considering pushing for the 25th to be enacted, although I might be remembering wrong and it was impeachment. I can’t remember names, though. We need to find them and encourage them. I’ll bet we might be able to find some Republicans who have a backbone. I think they usually get shouted down by the extremists in the House and Senate.
Let me know if you agree with me and this piece. I’d be very interested in other viewpoints. I’m mostly getting information straight from the article. I can vouch for the book, though, as I’ve read part of it. I hope to hear from you. Thanks for sticking with me!
*****And now, please read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Zoomers, we feel guilty asking for cash, but if you can spare a small amount, it will keep us trekking through cyberspace. Many hands make light work, many small contributions add up to enough. And most of all, we thank you for coming here to read. Ursula

I can’t understand how anyone who listened to any of his campaign speeches this go around would consider him anything less than senile and certainly in the first stages of dementia. His maggot magas didn’t care but what about the supposedly sane members of the Supreme Court and both houses of Congress? They’re complicit in the destruction of our country by a mad man.
Ouch! I have to agree with you, tho. They are complicit, if nothing else, for absolute immunity. If we can’t put him in jail, maybe we could put him in an institution?
Without even opening his fat ugly mouth Trump shows everyone he’s not right in the head – He PAINTS HIS FACE ORANGE!
*snort*dies laughing*
Also, I need to figure out how to remember to use that in my pieces because too. funny. *grin*
The problem with the 25th Amendment is that, unlike his first term, Drumpf doesn’t have a single Cabinet member who would consider invoking it unless they could find some personal financial and/or political benefit in doing so.
It wouldn’t even surprise me to learn that Drumpf is keeping everyone under watch to ensure that none of them can be in a situation where they might could conspire against him. And, even if any of them did want to consider invoking the 25th, the bunch who could do it–in my opinion–are so weak-willed on the matter that it would be a case of “Well, if you’ll invoke it, I’ll support you–if you can convince ______ to go along with you first.”
And an “ouch!” for you, too. I wasn’t aware that a Cabinet member had to be involved. Thank you for the comment – always interesting to hear what you have to say!
He wasn’t exactly appointing the best and the brightest, just those hungry for power and sufficiently sycophantic who agree with his ideology summed up as “What’s in it for me?”
Wait a second. Is this real this piece? It’s not satire? It’s trash! The biggest piece of drivel I’ve read in a long time and that’s saying something considering I’ve been reading here for a while now. You bunch of Joe fricken biden supporters have the nerve to say that ANYONE is slipping mentally is beyond the typical liberal hypocrisy. It’s downright laughable!
And it’s based on some other garbage you read on alternet?? That’s the kicker right there!
You can read? Try the Constitution. If that’s too much…go with Dr. Seuss. The Sneetches would be perfect.
For the first time since the election Biden has just made a public appearance. A speech. He displayed gravitas but at the same time was personable, again showing he’s that rare person with the ability to project both power and humility at the same time. I saw a lot of clips from his remarks. Biden was thoughtful and articulate, clearly knowledgeable on what he was talking about yet also able to “work the room” poking some fun at himself and his age. Same old Biden. Old to be sure, but in command of himself and complex topics. If media in this country wasn’t so terrified of Trump they’d put up say ten, or at least five minute segments of both Biden and Trump (who PAINTS HIS FACE ORANGE!), or better still devotes a half-hour to showing five minutes of one followed by five minutes of the other. Back and forth and THEN people could see the difference and more importantly the truth – Biden is a thoroughbred that isn’t quite as dominant but still faster than most horses while Trump is a broken down old packhorse who was never, ever fast enough to be put into even some race at some minor-league, in the middle of nowhere racetrack. Or not even a horse, but a fucking COW, and one with mad-cow disease!
Mark, do us a favor and get help. Therapy and anti-psychotics can work wonders.
Have you actually ever dealt with someone with dementia? I have. My husband and I cared for my father with Alzheimer’s for the last 18 months of his life. He was in the moderate to severe stage. He was coherent. He spoke in complete sentences. His conversations made sense. He was simply unable to manage cooking, cleaning,,and caring for himself. Trump can’t finish sentences. Go read his tweets. They are incoherent and lack any basis in fact. He lashes out like a toddler at anyone who disagrees with him. Compared to Trump,.my father had no cognitive issues.
The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump edited by Bandi Lee came out in October of 2017, following a conference earlier that year with the 37 psychiatrists and mental health professionals. Having been a mental health professional for my entire adult work life, and being a sane person who has disliked and distrusted tRump from the day he came down his schlock gold escalator, I was especially interested in the conclusions these 37 men and women came to when they decided to break their vow of not “diagnosing” an individual whom they had never seen for a psychiatric evaluation, but for the good of our nation, they went one step further and published their professional opinions in the book. I read it twice. It was the first time I had heard the diagnosis of Donald Trump as a “malignant narcissistic personality disorder.” This meant that Trump was not only a selfish, self-absorbed individual, but that he was also absolutely incapable of having any caring in any part of his psyche with which to relate to others. Malignant narcissistic personality disorder is often used in diagnosing serial killers. The only reason Donald Trump does not totally fit this category is because he is too chicken to carry out murders himself. Instead, he does it by negligence as in the case of cOVID-19 pandemic. Depositing and leaving innocent people in a torture prison in El Salvador is another example. He may have found a suppository, in the El Salvadoran prison, where he can send his “perceived enemies,” without due process and with NO chance of return to the US. This should scare the living wits out of every one of us! Donald tRump belongs in a mental institution for the criminally insane, where he would be treated way better than the individuals he has already had “disappeared” to El Salvador. People who are sent by the courts to a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane are almost never released back into the community. Thank you for this article, Susan. I pray every day that the “Silent HOP” will grow spines and help the Dems see to it that tRump gets the justice we ALL deserve.”
Of COURSE you’re ok with diagnosing from afar when it suits your narrative. Pfft. President Trump is clearly capable of empathy for others as evidenced by his compassion for families of victims of illegal alien crimes, service members and more.
Delusional left wing nuts
Evidenced???
He has none. He’s a phucking cult member strutting out his rationalizations for nazis. Phuck him and his ‘opinions’.
Hey Scott! This is one of those times when phucking is *more* than appropriate. You are correct!
Psychopaths are master manipulators. He couldn’t care less about the families of people harmed by. undocumented. immigrants (and studies have shown that the undocumented are much less likely to commit crimes than the average American or greencard holder).. He’s a racist pig whose staff likely handed him a notecard and told him what to say. He doesn’t write his speeches,;no president does. He’s a performer. He can feign empathy, just as most psychopaths do;it’s how they get what they want.
As for diagnosing him without ever meeting him– they have hours, and hours of tape and tweets to go one, much more than they would with an average patient seeing that person twice a week.for an hour at a time.
I had read part of the book and have now moved it to my desktop to re-read the first part and finish the rest. One of the things I remember is that I had no trouble understanding what they were saying – so it’s a good read even for a layperson. I do not have any experience in your side of the perspective so I’m glad to have your input. I agree – it’s frightening. I also hope that the Dems will wake up and start the movement to get him out. I think they have woken up and started acting again. It’s about time! (Bernie Sanders and AOC got that started!)
Too bad his cabinet is too craven to invoke the 25th and congress can’t get the needed numbers for impeachment/removal. We’re boned.
That’s an understatement.
Trump has dementia,in the moderate level. He’s also a malignant narcissist, spoiled rotten, and petty as hell. Vance is egotistical and perhaps,a,sociopath, but Daddy didn’t buy him his Yale law degree. I think he also isn’t likely to start a war or to string up his critics from lamp posts in the public square. At this point Vance is preferable over Trump. He also has the charisma of a mashed turnip, so he is unlikely to win a national.election. I’ll take the grinning egotist with a functioning brain over Dementia Donnie.
Charisma of a mashed turnip *snort*LAUGH* very valid points so I will give you that, for sure!
Re: Biden. He’s. old. He has the sort of age-related memory issues that are normal. He was able to deliver one hell of a SOTU speech. He wasn’t wrecking the economy with idiotic tariffs; in fact, he fixed the mess Trump.had made of it and was able to turn a pandemic into a merely annoying annual illness. wasn’t picking fights with our allies. He wasn’t cozying up to dictators. He wasn’t threatening to send American citizens to hellhole prisons for the crime of exercising their first amendment rights.
Damned right I would take Biden over the 34times convicted felon and adjudicated rapist with dementia any day. He is a decent man with morals and an understanding of the constiution, unlike Dementia Donnie who.has neither
Oh, I wasn’t talking down about Biden at all so I apologize if it seemed that way. I supported Biden and I supported his re-election run. He is exponentially better than tRump – absolutely. Biden was an amazing president. He fixed what was broken and now it’s being destroyed twice as badly. When is the time when it can’t be fixed? Are we there already only 3 months in?
My response was for Mark, who has no clue how dementia is diagnosed– and that these docs had enormous amounts of Trump mouthing off, far more than they would have unless they saw him frequently. Mark.doesn’t know the difference between normal aging and the babble Dementia Donnie puts out.
To paraphrase Thomas Paine…to argue with someone who has contempt for humanity and have abandoned reason, is like administering medicine to a corpse or to attempt to convert an atheist using scripture. Mark is DOA. Brain dead. No argument will suffice.
