Maybe Donald Trump has a death wish, because with all the other heat he is taking right now, to create more controversy is just plain nuts. Trump retweeted the video below of seniors from a complex in Florida called “The Villages” protesting against each other. At the beginning of the video is a man driving a golf cart bedecked with Trump signs, pumping his fist and shouting “White Power!” This set off one hell of a firestorm. Here’s what Politico playbook posted at 8:10 a.m. Pacific.

HAPPY SUNDAY. THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES tweeted “thank you to the great people of The Villages” — in response to a tweet of a guy yelling “White power.” The tweet, which includes the video

SUNDAY BEST: HHS SECRETARY ALEX AZAR told CNN’s JAKE TAPPER that neither he, nor President DONALD TRUMP nor the administration “would do anything to do supportive of white supremacy or anything that would support discrimination of any kind.”

SEN. TIM SCOTT (R-S.C.) told TAPPER the president “should not have reteweeted it, and he should just take it down. … It is indefensible.”

Apparently Trump decided to listen to Tim Scott, since he and Scott are purportedly figuring out police reform together and Scott has some credibility. So around nine o’clock Pacific he deleted the tweet and video. But that’s an exercise in futility because everything the moron tweets is screenshot.

Here’s the video and the blow back. The “White Power” salute is at the very beginning.

Meanwhile, to add comic relief, Mike Pence was on Face the Nation. He was asked why he can’t say “Black Lives Matter.” Well, it’s obvious. The base wouldn’t like it.

“I cherish the progress that we have made for African-Americans throughout our history. And I’ve aspired throughout my career to be a part of that ongoing work. It’s really a heart issue for me. And as a pro-life Americans, I also believe that all lives matter, born and the unborn.”

It’ll break his jaw, I guess, to say “Black Lives Matter.”

In all events, the lines are drawn and the culture war just got even hotter.

    • That is their way. Biden needs to have his AG ask the Southern Poverty Law Center who to go after and then use Bush’s fascist laws to send them to the prison in Cuba. Then they need to repeal the patriot act and bring the terrorist back to the state for trials that are shown live on tv.

    • I thought of that right away … in Trump’s simple minded, getting smaller group of die hard gun-carrying loud mouths, this comment alone should be hung directly on Trump as a physical threat to Biden and he should be charged with inciting a life threatening attack on VP Biden … WORDS HAVE CONSEQUENCES …. a message to Biden’s SS crew, “Trump just threatened Biden on a since deleted tweet … here it is and his exact words were thanks to those people shouting nasty things, which included a demonstrator shouting, “WHITE POWER”, then in his own words, claimed, “Biden is shot” ….

In these difficult times, lots of people going out of a job, because of Trump’s non-handling the Trump virus, people penned into a stay at home order, already getting stupid about masks and not trying to mitigate the virus as it should be … Trump is laying land mines for everyone, every time he speaks, and demands mask-free rants, with releases of any responsibility for virus infections there …

YEP, he HAS finally reached the stupidity of no return and no value to the security/health/survival of our citizens … fuck Trump!! And throw Pence an anvil instead of a life preserver in his latest screw-ups about the virus …

    • Trump is trying to start a new civil war. We can’t let this pass. With the news about Putin, we need to shove his ass out of the white house now. Four more months is too long.

  1. I knew that Republicans were stupid fascist now just like they were in the 30’s and 40’s, but I didn’t know there were so many old farts like me that hate Trump as much as we do here on politizoom.

Have found a news website here in Miss called mississippitoday.com. It has the bothsiderism and such and doesn’t have much national news, but it does cover the state news and lord have we had a lot of it lately. The beauty of it is it attracts wing-nuts that I can rile up. One girl actually complained about me and that the site was becoming a liberal site. Too, there are Democrats that comment other than myself.

It is nice commenting here and on Dkos, but it is sort of like preaching to the choir. I doubt I will convert any of them, but it feels good to get things off my chest and to rub their noses in their own shit.

Oh, happy news. Mississippi legislature and senate voted last night by 67% to get rid of our current flag. Never thought I would live to see the day.

    • Agreed maybe: preaching to the choir. But. Depending on where we live, knowing there are lots and lots of “us” out there is also good for one’s peace of mind. Even where I live, in a close-in DC suburb, ethnically and racially a wonderful mix, great policing, high socioeconomic standard of living for most residents, terrific schools, and more–there are still folks at every turn slavering for Trump and shouting at groups of kids with all the races in the rainbow having fun together.

One kid from a local high school was in a group of kids chatting before the virus hit and closed our schools when a MAGA-hat wearing woman in a huge pick-up truck tried to run them over right in front of aforementioned high school. Which is about two miles from my house. These crazies are every-damned-where and we need all the sustenance from like-minded folks we can get. This has been among the toughest almost four years for millions of Americans.

    • With all due respect, blueman, but the Republicans of the 30s and 40s were not any more “fascist” than any other political party’s members. They were the party of Big Business (as they pretty much remain today) but hardly a group of “fascists.”

The 1936 GOP Presidential nominee was Alf Landon, generally considered a “Liberal Republican” (he even supported some of FDR’s “New Deal” programs; later in life, he would support LBJ’s “Great Society” programs and the VP candidate was Frank Knox* (who would be FDR’s Secretary of the Navy during most of WW2; he died in April 1944, still serving as Navy Secretary).

In 1940, the GOP Presidential candidate was Wendell Willkie who had been a pro-Roosevelt delegate to the 1932 Democratic Convention, and while he opposed some of FDR’s programs (like Landon before him), he also believed that some programs worked better than private enterprise could do. Additionally, while most of the other GOP candidates were isolationists (not the same as “fascists”), Willkie was a staunch supporter of the Allies. Willkie’s VP was Charles McNary who’d actually led a “Stop Willkie” faction at the Convention. Willkie was a businessman, McNary a farmer; Willkie was a political novice, McNary was a veritable “professional politician”; Willkie was a staunch opponent of FDR’s TVA program, McNary applauded it. (Ironic sidenote: Both Willkie and McNary died in 1944–Willkie in October, McNary in February; the first, and to date only, time that both members of a major party’s ticket would’ve died before the end of their term in office. Since there was no provision for replacing the VP at the time, after his death, whoever Willkie had named Secretary of State would’ve become acting President until Jan 20, 1945. Of course, FDR would die in office some 5 months after winning his 4th term in office.)

And, in 1944, the GOP candidates were Thomas Dewey and John Bricker. Both were outspoken against Roosevelt (to some degree, both men suggested that FDR was a Communist or a Communist sympathizer) and Dewey, especially, was prone to some conspiracy theories. He believed that FDR allowed the Japanese to bomb Pearl Harbor (the problem with that was largely that the mere suggestion would’ve led to suspicion that the US had broken a secret Japanese code but Army Chief of Staff George Marshall stepped in and “warned” Dewey not to touch the matter; in Oct of 1944, Marshall would inform FDR’s close advisor, Harry Hopkins, who then relayed the information to FDR who believed that Dewey would never actually give any information to the enemy). But (even in the 1948 election), Dewey remained very much the “Eastern Establishment” GOPer–although he would largely stay out of the Red-baiting and strong anti-Communist rhetoric that was beginning to build among GOPers (some were calling to ban the Communist Party outright but Dewey said”you can’t shoot an idea with a gun” and he wasn’t “going around looking under beds”).

Trump and his supporters indulge in authoritarian fantasies, not necessarily fascist fantasies. The main difference between Communism and Fascism is HOW the State interacts with business concerns and interests. Communists advocate a State control and oversight of business (industrial and agricultural) while Fascists advocate a kind of “partnership” between the State and business; basically, under Communism, the State sets goals and decides how those goals are to be met while under Fascism, the State sets goals but allows businesses leeway over how to reach those goals (under Communism, if the goals aren’t met, the State doesn’t have a built-in scapegoat while under Fascism, the State has its scapegoat, if the CEO or board of directors doesn’t offer up a sacrifice).

*For better or worse, Knox was a strong advocate of interning Japanese-Americans in camps during the War, even claiming (with no proof) that Hawaii was a hotbed of fifth column activity, second only to Norway.

Dr. Frankel, in recounting his experience as a child in the Nazi death camp, pointed out the Jewish collaborators often were more cruel than the SS. Are you listening Timmy?
