Mitch McConnell is a master strategist, but he may have blown it by not voting, and getting his caucus to vote, to get rid of Donald Trump once and for good. Trump lashed out at McConnell today, acquittal vote or no. The Hill:

Former President Trump on Tuesday unloaded on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and vowed to back challengers to lawmakers who have crossed him, foretelling a brutal primary season for divided Republicans.

Trump’s statement, which was released through his Save America super PAC, blames McConnell for the GOP’s 2020 Senate losses.

“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again,” Trump said. “He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country. Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First. We want brilliant, strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership.”

That’s pretty clear. The battle lines are drawn and it’s MAGA v. what’s left of the old school Republican party. Should have taken your shot when you had it, Mitch.

  1. Oh goody goody goody. Reminds me of the southpark episode where the kids had to pick a new mascot. The choices were: a shit sandwich or a douche. Sounds about right.

  2. This is the obverse of the coin. We thought we had lost by not convicting Trump, but really, the Republicans have lost. They had the chance to remove the biggest obstacle to their party unity, and they failed. They stuck with Trump and he will destroy their party from within and consume it in his own inevitable destruction.

What was his favorite story of the snake?

They can’t say they weren’t warned.

  3. Funny how Trump describes McConnell as “dour, sullen, and unsmiling” because you rarely saw Trump as anything other than “dour, sullen, and unsmiling” (unless he was standing in front on his throng of admirers/sheep at a rally and they were repeating something he’d said).

  4. This will be an ugly thing to watch unfold. Still, two bucks says that in the name of “balance” the supposedly liberal media will run damned near as many “Dems in disarray” stories, even though our disagreements will be lame & tame by comparison to the full-blown shit show the GOP is going to put on!
