This story is taking a bizarre and unexpected spin. Donald Trump is in Ireland and he told reporters there that he was falsely accused by E. Jean Carroll and, “I don’t even know who she is.” How he thinks a whopper of a lie like that is going to fly, who knows, but this is Trump we’re talking about. Evening Standard:
“I’m going back to New York. I was falsely accused by this woman, I have no idea who she is – it’s ridiculous,” he said.
He said he is having to cut his trip to Ireland short because of the trial.
“I’ll be going back early because a woman made a claim that is totally false, it’s fake.”
He said his accuser is a Democrat and the judge is a “rough judge”.
“He doesn’t like me very much, he was appointed by Bill Clinton,” he said.
He added: “It’s a disgrace but we have to do it, it’s a part of life.
“It’s a fake claim like all the other claims, just like ‘Russia Russia Russia’.
He said it is a “political scam”.
“Because of that I have to leave Ireland and I have to leave Scotland where I have great properties, I have to leave early.
“I don’t have to but I choose to.”
Your guess is as good as mine. Reading between the lines I would say that Trump is terrified that he’s going to lose this case. I can only assume that the reality of actually seeing a case go to court and losing it is rattling him.
Closing arguments in the trial are expected Monday. I suppose it’s possible for Trump to show up in court today or tomorrow. What he could possibly say to a jury at this juncture would certainly be amusing and I’m not sure how all this works procedurally. Joe Tacopina said yesterday there would be no witnesses, no defense, and now that’s changed, there will be a defense?
Great. I would love to see Trump on a witness stand making a complete ass of himself. Bring it on.

The trial has been going on for how long? And he went overseas in the midst of it. And suddenly he has to go home because someone is accusing him of something bad and untrue? Hello? He cannot say he didn’t know the trial was going on because he commented on it on his “truth” site and got slapped down by the judge. I can’t believe the judge would suddenly allow him to testify on his own behalf. So he’s just flapping his jowls. He wasn’t given a hero’s welcome so he’s taking his bat and ball and going home. Boohoohoo.
He told Joey Taco that he wouldn’t testify. They judge will not be happy.
Actually, if I were the judge I would GLADLY let him testify ALL he wants! Just talk and talk and talk, Donnie. And if I were Elizabeth Jean, I would DOUBLY welcome it! There could be no greater witness for the prosecution on earth than THIS defendant!!!
I suppose the fact that the Irish (and the Scots) don’t like him very much either has no bearing on his welcome departure from my country?
Or maybe it’s down to the fact that the judge in his case against the New York Times tossed it out and hit him with costs
Something’s rotten in the state of Denmark. Hamlet
Perhaps fat ass would feel better if his corrupt “Federal judge” sister was preciding over his trial.
Maybe his lead lawyer “Tacopenis” (thanks for that one Murfster!) realized the flush handle on the case’s toilet had been pushed and sent up the proverbial Hail Mary/er, Trump Bat-Sh!t Insane signal. This is classic Trump spray sh!t at the wall with a fire hose and hoping something sticks. I think this REEKS of desperation. If he was going to appear he should have done so from the beginning. And now that clips of his deposition have been shown to the jury Carroll’s lawyers are going to have a field day if he takes the stand. Even if he doesn’t, if he just sits at the table to “prove” he “cares” about all this I simply don’t believe he’s got the self-discipline to remain calm. He will fidget. He will glare and make other faces. He might even grab his lawyer’s arm and start furiously whispering, demanding that he do SOMETHING during the Plaintiff’s side’s closing argument.
I’ve often said I learned early in life that no matter how bad things get, they can always get worse. I think we are about to see worse – in truly Trumpian fashion.
Wait, didn’t tRump just get a request from Irish authorities to come sit in on a proceeding having to do with his property (since he would already be in country and could easily extend his stay by a few days). What was that about?
He was ordered by Clare County Council last year to remove a fence tat had been erected at the sand dunes. Full report here

The likely reason FrankenTrump is returning to “confront” Carroll: he’s noticed all the “Trump’s a coward” taunts in the blogosphere and social media. If Tacopina is lucky, his client will either get back too late for the trial or be thrown out by the judge. Then the Former Guy can claim that he TRIED to confront Carroll, but the mean old Clinton-appointed judge wouldn’t let him. On the off chance that he does haul his portly self into the witness chair, the jury will probably add horsewhipping to the much anticipated humongous monetary award…
He’s heading home because he didn’t get a warm welcome overseas like President Biden received, but mostly so he can be holed up at magalardo when the jury announces its verdict. He doesn’t want to be near any press at that time. He’d rather be among his faithful admirers who believe any drivel that oozes out of that big, fat mouth of his.
Since then, the judge has called Drumpf’s bluff, and allowed for him to testify on Monday, setting a deadline of 5PM Sunday for JTacopenis to file the necessary request to reopen his defense and call the defendant to the stand – – – HEE HEE HEE HEE HEEeeee ….. I love the thought of TFG’s self-immolation, but maybe JT will be able to talk some sense into the arrogant SOB (does anyone else doubt it?).
Trump has been involved directly or indirectly in thousands of lawsuits. He thinks this is just one more. Let’s hop e it isn’t.
Thanks for the heads up.
Translation: Y’all are not fawning over me sufficiently, all you’re thinking about is your loser king, I’m butthurt, and I’m going to take my ball and go home!”
(yes I know Charles isn’t the king of Ireland, but I bet Hair Twittler doesn’t.)
The best possible outcome may be on its way.
He won’t show up in court. He’ll come back and skewer things in the media. Can you imagine him…..on the stand……and E.Jean Carroll’s lawyer question him?! Uh no.
Trump left Ireland because the Irish there booed him. He is not about to open himself up to more derision.
That’s the thing. He’s an EX Prez and can’t get anything close to the number of Secret Service AND local LE, military units etc. needed to keep EVERYONE not approved by his handlers far, far away. They can get a whole lot closer now. Close enough for him to see and hear and as noted both In Scotland and Ireland they aren’t any kinder than in the past. I can just see Trump exploding in rage as he was demanding from this politico or that that the assign legions of “security” (to keep the crowds far, far away) and being told to “stuff” himself. (In case you don’t know, in this context “Stuff” is slang for the f-word.)
I wonder if Auntie Manda has touched on the real reason, namely that Mr Trump was in or adjacent to the UK expecting (or hoping, and perhaps “negotiating”) to get a last-minute invitation to the Coronation.
And left when it was clear this wouldn’t be forthcoming.
Haha, the very first thing that occurred to me! Surely it was just an oversight on Charles’ part! 🧐
