Many little fish in Trump world have been convicted and sentenced, i.e., the J6 rioters, but Peter Navarro is the biggest fish to be sentenced to the House Of Many Doors — other than Steve Bannon — and that happened just this morning. Ouch. NBC News:

WASHINGTON — Former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison Thursday for criminal contempt of Congress, with federal prosecutors saying he “thumbed his nose” at the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Navarro was convicted in September on two counts for refusing to testify and provide documents to the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, which issued its report and dissolved in late 2022 after Republicans won control of the House.

The charge carried a mandatory minimum sentence of a month in prison. Federal prosecutors had sought six months for Navarro, saying he, “like the rioters at the Capitol, put politics, not country, first, and stonewalled Congress’s investigation.” Navarro, prosecutors said, “chose allegiance to former President Donald Trump over the rule of law.”

U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta handed down the sentence Thursday and also ordered Navarro to pay a fine of $9,500.

It goes without saying that Navarro immediately went out into the streets to beg MAGAs for the money, because that’s how this school of fish swims. They pull the political persecution card and beg the rubes for their Social Security checks.

Meanwhile, Trumpty Dumpty is not happy about this, not a tall, a tall. And you know why? Because Navarro’s argument is that he was “duty-bound to do it,” because Trump had invoked “executive privilege,” lawyer Stanley Woodward argued Thursday. These days executive privilege isn’t flying any higher than presidential immunity. They’re both sitting there on the tarmac like lead zeppelins, unable to get off the ground.

Navarro helped spread misinformation about the 2020 election after Trump’s loss and issued a report that Trump falsely said proved that it was statistically “impossible” for him to have lost the election. Trump referred to the report in his infamous “will be wild” tweet on Dec. 19, 2020, encouraging supporters to travel to Washington for a “Big protest” on Jan. 6. That tweet, many Jan. 6 defendants have said, is what drew them to Washington.

I know what you’re thinking, that Navarro will somehow endlessly delay incarceration as Steve Bannon seems to have done. But take heart, Navarro losing his case, along with Bannon losing his case, makes it more likely that they both are going to be donning orange jumpsuits in the not too distant future.

Trump is in court right now and reporters have not gotten a chance to ask him about Navarro but you can script out for yourself what he’s likely to say. He’s very predictable and this will be one more political prosecution by the Deep State against an innocent MAGA, a patriot, when Trump gets through with it.

The moral of the story is that if you’ve written a book and Jared Kushner finds you on Amazon, run. Do not walk, do not pass go, just run as fast as you possibly can.

  1. Navarro asked MAGAs for money? Uh Oh. THAT will enrage Trump far more than one of his minions (again) getting hit with consequences for supporting him. As far as Trump is concerned every single MAGA dollar donated is for HIM and him alone.
