I can’t wait to see how Donald Trump lies his way out of this one. This is truly an incredible gaffe. He will try to spin it as a “joke” of some sort, I have no doubt. As you read here earlier, Trump is in South Carolina today ginning up votes for the primary on the 24th. He probably doesn’t need to be there but he is and so is Nikki Haley, in another town, passing out cognitive exams for the purpose of mocking him.
Trump took the stage to chants of “Fuck Joe Biden” because that is the world in which we live. One reason that is the case is because Trump has made it so. Had he told the crowd, “Guys, let’s be civilized. Mr. Biden and I disagree on a lot of things, but let’s be respectful,” they would have stopped. But he doesn’t want that. Trump revels in the decadence of the circus he has created. There’s an old Arab expression, “If you send a clown to the palace, he doesn’t become a king. The palace becomes a circus.” And so we have seen in our lifetimes.
