Allen Weisselberg, former President Donald Trump’s long-time chief financial officer, was sentenced by a New York judge to five months in jail for his role in a decade-long tax fraud scheme after testifying as the state’s witness against the Trump Organization.
Following the court hearing, Weisselberg, 75, is expected to report to Rikers Island, the notorious New York City jail, to begin serving his sentence immediately.
He pleaded guilty last August to 15 felonies in a deal with prosecutors. As part of the deal, he was required to testify truthfully at the trial of the Trump Organization, pay $2 million in back taxes, interest and penalties, and waive any right to appeal.
Weisselberg admitted he should have paid taxes on off-the-books compensation, totaling roughly $200,000 in one year, which included a luxury Manhattan apartment overlooking the Hudson River, two Mercedes Benz car leases, parking, utilities, furniture and private school tuition for his grandchildren.
Judge Juan Merchan on Tuesday said had he not already promised a five-month sentence to Weisselberg, he would have issued a stiffer sentence “much greater” than five months after listening to evidence at trial.
Without a deal, Weisselberg faced a sentence as long as five to 15 years in prison.
The terms of the deal that got Weisselberg’s sentence dropped from 15 years to a paltry five months was that Weisselberg testified against two Trump companies convicted in connection with the tax fraud scheme.
And don’t forget, Weisselberg is also a defendant in the $250 million civil lawsuit brought by Letitia James, alleging that Trump, his three eldest children, Weisselberg and others defrauded lenders, insurers and tax authorities by inflating the value of multiple Trump Organization properties for over a decade.
I think it’s safe to predict that the Trump family is never going to work in this town (in this case, New York) again. Or in New York State.
You know the old expression, everything Trump touches dies.

I think what the issue there is, that the judge knew it was going to be a short sentence and wanted to drive the point home. The sentence could be even shorter. He might serve for 90 days. I couldn’t stand to be in jail or prison for a day, which is why I don’t do illegal things. I guess this crowd figures it’s possible to get away with anything.
Nope, he won’t care. As long as it isn’t HIM, what does anything matter?
Even the secure wing for high-profile prisoners at Riker’s is a place that will shock the hell out of him. He’s now been processed in and is almost certainly in “Oh my gawd, how am I going to get through six months of this? mode. And like Bolsonaro his digestive system is in for a whole lotta “fun” I suspect. He’s got more trials to testify in, and depending on what Jack Smith is up to something new could pop up. Even a week at Riker’s will make ole Alan ready to sing like a performer at the Metropolitan Opera. Don’t be surprised it, in order to escape his cell for as many hours a day as possible he doesn’t decide to instead spend his days in a conference room (if he wants a comfy chair let him have it – in there only!) giving up all manner of stuff on Trump. Stay tuned.
