If you ask pretty well any Trump supporter what his signature achievement to this point in his administration might be – excluding the judges that have squeaked through due to McConnell tossing aside the 60 vote rule for the SCOTUS justices – it would be the tax cut passed last year, the one that would give so much money to people and “prime the pump” of the American economy, the one with hand-written notes in the margins and pages crossed out, it required so many last minute revisions, the one with no hearings at all, written in the middle of the night. Yeah, that tax cut, the one that gave money overwhelmingly to the rich, people like Trump, to the extent he’s rich.
The tax cuts, as Republicans always promise, were to pay for themselves because the economy would near explode with activity. It is nothing more than Reagan voo-doo economics trotted out yet again. It has never worked. It didn’t work for Reagan, who had to raise taxes, not Bush (either of them) and it is not working for Trump. The deficit is the thing that is exploding.
Thus it should come as absolutely no surprise that Trump decided the country couldn’t afford to give the largest work-force in the country a pay raise: Per CNN
President Donald Trump told lawmakers on Thursday he was scrapping a planned pay raise for federal workers, saying the nation’s budget couldn’t support it.
