Donald Trump just told a whopper of a story. He has “ordered” reverse transgender surgeries. What’s that you say? Doncha need to be a doctor to do something like that? In the real world, yes, but in Trump’s fantasy land world it’s apparently possible to have a U.S. president schedule medical procedures for people. Off the walls, as usual.

What a scenario: Democrats (in Trump’s “mind”) demanding “transgender for everyone,” some people doing just that, and the hospitals being filled with people who are following Trump’s edict to have a “reverse transgender” surgery. Don’t get appendicitus, you’ll be in a hallway forever because the reverse transgender operations are buzzing on 24/7.

The truth is that Trump probably made this up on the spot in South Carolina because it fit into the flow of his speech. That’s about the size of it.

  1. Boy, oh boy. I hope Caitlyn Jenner’s just really enjoying the life being offered by the man she supported (and likely voted for).

  2. i have, to my knowledge, met one transgender person in 64 years. how is this in any way any kind of issue at all. it isn’t just trump who’s crazy here.

    • I’ve actually known several and they were all drag queens. This was back in the 90s and a couple of them were living as women (though I don’t know if they really thought of themselves as “trans” women or not; one of them had a not-gay boyfriend–he didn’t interact as gay, but rather as straight and he only really seemed interested in his girlfriend). I knew one queen who’d started transitioning (oh my god–the hormone treatments! you knew when she’d just had a treatment because her emotions were all over the place, laughing at a joke could turn into a full-out “ugly cry” and she was constantly apologizing) a couple of years after I first met her. Him? (When you meet someone, and tend to exclusively interact with them, in their drag identity, the she/her situation is almost a given.)
But, even outside of them, I grew up in the era when Renee Richards was making the news (and that was a good quarter-century after Christine Jorgensen had made headlines). Not to mention pop culture with Divine and the “All in the Family” storyline introducing “drag performer” Beverly LaSalle (and the “crisis of faith” for Edith when the character is killed a couple of years later; Edith was slow to understand Beverly but did nothing but offer kindness and love and support so when Beverly was killed, it just about destroyed Edith). Billy Crystal’s introduction as Jodie Dallas on “Soap” has him in full drag (his mother’s outrage at him is because he looks so much better in the dress than she ever did) and later contemplating a sex change so he could marry his football-player boyfriend. And Harvey Korman on “The Carol Burnett Show” (usually as “Mother Markus” on the “As the Stomach Turns” skits) and Flip Wilson’s sassy alter ego, Geraldine Jones.
