As he has done so many times before, Donald Trump put his foot in his mouth this morning and was then forced to chew thoroughly. He’s blamed Democrats for everything from the deaths of migrants to the economic costs of the pandemic to the escalating legal fees his 2024 campaign has incurred, even though all of this is verifiably of his own doing.
This time, he’s blaming Democrats for comments he made about contraceptives, The Daily Beast reports. Early Tuesday he had suggested restrictions on contraceptives should be left to the states.
In an interview with local CBS station KDA, in Pittsburgh, he spoke with anchor Jon Delano. The topic? State restrictions on reproductive rights, including abortion.
“Do you support any restrictions on a person’s right to contraception?” Delano asked.
Trump did what he usually does and said a bunch of something about nothing because his words were nonsensical as usual.
“well, we’re looking at that and i’m going to have a policy on that very shortly. and i think it’s something that you’ll find interesting. And i’d see—it’s another issue that’s very interesting,” trump said. “but you will, you will find it, i think, very smart. i think it’s a smart decision, but we’ll be releasing it very soon.”
Delano was incredulous at this point, so he asked Trump if he was referring to birth control such as the “morning-after pill.” Trump really doubled down here, and this is what led to all the fun afterward.
“we are also, you know, things really do have a lot to do with the states. and some states are going to have different policies than others,” the former president said, adding he intended to release the policy within a week.
Trump has waved states’ rights in front of the media because he clearly wants to avoid dealing with issues related to this. He has referenced his purported policy on mifepristone, an abortion pill but has yet to say anything of any substance on the issue.
“i have some pretty strong views on [mifepristone]. and i’ll be releasing it over the next week,” he told TIME.
It’s been more than a month and well…crickets.
But his comments on Tuesday created quite a mess and he was forced to finally come out in support of contraceptives Tuesday after inferring that restrictions on contraceptives should be left up to the states to decide.
So he turned all shouty on Truth Social in his usual fashion to do damage control and used the opportunity to blame the Democrats.
“I HAVE NEVER, AND WILL NEVER ADVOCATE IMPOSING RESTRICTIONS ON BIRTH CONTROL, or other contraceptives,” he wrote, blaming Democratic “MISINFORMATION/DISINFORMATION” for the fracas.
Even though he’s the one that created the confusion in the first place.
But that’s typical Trump: Blame the Democrats and whoever else he can think of, for his own problems.
I think this is an example of Trump’s muddled thinking. Democrats have gone out of their way to make sure Americans have access to contraceptives, so Trump’s attempts to blame them for “misinformation/disinformation” means he’s doing nothing more than making excuses for his own frequent mistakes.
It would be nice if Trump would ever own up to his lies and mistakes but that’s something that would take longer than the Permian extinction.
Never. Gonna. Happen. Ever.

Dammit, if Trump says he’ll release that policy within a week, the press should stop hammering him about it! He obviously can’t release the policy right this second…he’s too busy with his brilliant infrastructure week rollout!! 🤬
I wish I could get away with putting off things like Trump does. Remember when everything was 2 weeks away? Now, he says next week because no one questions either one. Why doesn’t he just tell reporters he issued a policy last month and scream at them it’s not his fault they didn’t know that!!
It’s gotten to the point that, when I read something about Trump answering a question or giving a speech, I hear Charles Durning—-as the governor of Texas in “Best Little Whorehouse”—-singing “Oooh, I love to dance a little sidestep, now they see me now they don’t, I’ve come and gone….” in the background.
Not working too well these days, hmmm Donald???
