Christopher Kise asked Judge Arthur Engoron if his client, Donald Trump, could speak. Engoron agreed, with the proviso, that the commentary be kept to the facts and the law — as though Trump knows anything about either of those. Nevertheless, that bargain was struck and of course it lasted for two minutes and got out of control.
The bottom line here has always been client control. Neither Christopher Kise nor Alina Habba nor anybody else in Trump world has any control over their crazy boss. That’s been the case since the get go and once again, it was the case today.

I was hoping that Trump would rave outside the courthouse, but if he is, I haven’t found the tape of it yet. I can’t wait for Judge Engoron to pronounce the size of the fine. I hope it’s the entire $370,000,000 that Letitia James asked for. Wouldn’t that be glorious?
Another thing working against Trump is the fact that the pattern of attacks against the special counsel and various judges involved with Trump’s legal problems is getting onerous.

One thing that would stop all this in its tracks and cut down the Trump juggernaut once and for all, is if there was any leadership left in the GOP. If there was, and this is strictly hypothetical, then the Republican party could be the decisive body that would take Trump out of the limelight and restore politics in this country to some normalcy.
But don’t expect it. The reason we’re in this mess is because we have only one functioning political party and the one that is dysfunctional has a TV game show host with the emotional maturity of an 8-year-old at the head of its ranks.
That is what history will record. May God help us all.
