Mercy. Nukes in the Middle East. Well, no, not quite yet. But possible. This will mean, actually, that others are going to start working toward them, too. One nation does not need to dominate the Middle East with nuclear development, simply because that whole place is a hot mess and has been for centuries. Don’t add that into the mix! Gratitude to Raw Story:

A MAGA Senator took to the airwaves to call out President Donald Trump for hypocrisy. Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) admitted on “Face the Nation” Sunday that he was notcomfortable” with Trump’s newly announced and already problem-laden nuclear deal. “We’re bombing a country to keep’m from getting a nuclear weapon,” said Kennedy. “But we’re signing a deal with another country…that the world perceives as possibly, someday leading to a nuclear weapon.” The countries, of course, are Iran — which Trump ostensibly started to dismantle their nuclear program — and Saudi Arabia, the nation Trump wants to allow to enrich uranium.

This is a problem. A big problem. You can’t give one country in the Middle East the generosity of enriched uranium. You’re going to piss off all the other nations, and it becomes an even bigger mess than the Iran Forever War. If it’s said often enough, we can make an acronym for it – IFW. Hmmmm. Better check and see if it’s close to something else. It seems familiar. Maybe the Forever War of Iran. But, back on topic, we really don’t need all the countries in the Middle East to potentially build a nuke.

The U.S. struck the deal Wednesday but hit a snag over the Saudi government’s relationship with Israel. Less than 24 hours after announcing the deal, Trump added a condition that the Saudis normalize those relations. Experts warn the deal could trigger a cascade of nuclear ambitions across the Middle EastThe Wall Street Journal has reported, and critics note the Saudis gave Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner’s private equity firm $2 billion. “The world’s on a hair trigger,” Kennedy said. “The world looks at what’s going on in Ukraine, the Middle East, the world looks at America’s relationship now with Europe.”

He added, “People are scared.”

No wonder there were so many things to say above. But it never hurts to repeat something as a reminder. Not that we need reminders. But the thought of countries lobbing nukes around *is* frightening. With the movies that have been made and the history centers in Japan in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, that’s enough nuclear weapons. Don’t forget Chernobyl, either. We definitely don’t need any more. We know what they do, and we know how long it lasts, and any regular person should be worried. And scared. If Trump really goes through with this arrangement with Saudi Arabia, well. That’s definitely alarming. The Saudis have done so much with the Trump family, and they have done so much for the Saudis that Saudi Arabia only has to worry about a slap on the wrist as a reprimand.

The Louisiana lawmaker is hardly the first U.S. senator to vent frustration with Trump this week. White House demands that Majority Leader Sen. John Thune (R-SD) do more to pass the SAVE America Act — a non-citizen voting ban critics describe as redundant and dystopian — have infuriated GOP members of the Senate. “Instead of pointing the finger at Republicans,” Thune said, “they might think about going after the people who are stopping it on the floor, which is the Democrats.” “This idea that he can just command members of the Republican conference to get in line is just a fantasy,” responded Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). “It’s creating a circular firing squad for Republicans.” Kennedy himself added, “John can’t put a gun to people’s heads.”

It would really be a good thing to know why Trump is obsessing over the damn SAVE Act. It’s not going to pass ever. Democrats *and* Republicans hate it. This thing is just not right. It’s ridiculous. There are bigger things to worry about, and non-citizens can’t vote anyhow. The time would be better spent getting started on a way to control Trump’s nuclear ambitions, because he really wants to drop one on Iran and that would be Very Bad.

See you tomorrow!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
