Sweet Jesus, you see? This is why most governments and most bigger companies start from a position in which the job in which one works is a job created for a purpose and thus, before it is ended, one must determine that it should be ended… Instead, we in the United States, have the American federal government under Donald Trump, a government in which people are presumed to be doing nothing of such value as to constitute an excuse to “stay” employed, said presumption carrying such weight has to lead to actual terminations even as some start to pull back to ask “Who are these people again?”
Because in this case, “these people” were the people in the Department of Energy, and specifically, those people in a small division who oversee the safety of our nation’s nuclear missiles, and thus – if you extend your logic just a bit, some of the most important people on earth if one wants to preserve Western Civilization. According to CNN:
Sources told CNN the officials did not seem to know this agency oversees America’s nuclear weapons. An Energy Department spokesperson disputed the number of personnel affected, telling CNN that “less than 50 people” were “dismissed” from NNSA, and that the dismissed staffers “held primarily administrative and clerical roles.”
The agency began rescinding the terminations Friday morning. Some of the fired employees included NNSA staff who are on the ground at facilities where nuclear weapons are built. These staff oversee the contractors who build nuclear weapons, and they inspect these weapons.
See, normally one doesn’t even want some weird interruption in these people’s lives. I think it’s really hard for some of us to imagine what type of people these must be. These are the type of folks that we expect to stand up to people in both our government (In case favors are asked), and representatives of terrorists and other foreign governments, any number of whom would give anything to even just get phone pictures of these bombs, at least the inner-workings, never mind get their actual hands on one. By the way, every single presumption regarding stability that you have with respect to our society, begins and ends with these people doing their job because there is never a shortage of terrorists willing to use these exact same bombs in the exact same way. So, again – let’s thank them because the presumption is what it is because it’s likely true, they are that good – they’ve maintained a perfect record this long for a reason.
It also included employees at NNSA headquarters who write requirements and guidelines for contractors who build nuclear weapons. A source told CNN they believe these individuals were fired because “no one has taken anytime [sic] to understand what we do and the importance of our work to the nation’s national security
These terminations are near invaluable in the sense that they demonstrate what is lost when actions like this go through, as most do, though not having to do with nuclear bombs, they likely do approach on important subjects like civil rights, taxes, consumer protection, and other government functions. There are some people far more intimately familiar with the rules, the needs, the concerns, the pressure points, all of it, in small communities or divisions within the government, and we don’t know about them precisely because they do their jobs such as to never require notice. But it’s all the more reason to retain said people over fire them and lose all that institutional memory and experience.
Of course, this is especially true when it actually does involve nuclear bombs, as was the case here:
“Congress is freaking out because it appears DOE didn’t really realize NNSA oversees the nuclear stockpile,” a source told CNN. “The nuclear deterrent is the backbone of American security and stability – period. For there to be any even very small holes poked even in the maintenance of that deterrent should be extremely frightening to people.”
Oh, people at DOE knew! They definitely knew. Perhaps the people at DOE that were there to fire everyone else, the new people from the Trump administration, perhaps they didn’t know, it is possible that some of them didn’t know – but the lifers at DOE well know that they’re in charge of nuclear safety in this country, not just the missiles but also the plants and waste material (The tie-in, waste disposal and nuclear material, all cross seams at the fissile material).
INCOMPETENCE OF NUCLEAR PROPORTIONSTrump officials fired nuclear staff not realizing they oversee the country’s weapons stockpile. Now, they are rushing to rescind their terminations.
So thankfully this all got worked out or is in the process of getting worked out. But it is definitely worth asking how it is that the default position in our government is “terminate them!” over saving the people and the jobs. The answer is pretty disturbing because it has to involve the “benefit” of rehiring people who are only “loyal” Trump supporters, or not hiring people at all, reducing the number of people in the federal government, thereby increasing the power of each remaining employee, all of whom are likely to be “loyalists” to Trump.
It gets pretty scary, the more we look like a banana republic. At least this time we kept the nuclear missiles safe. For now. Weird, though. And too close. Should never have happened. But welcome to the world, these terminations are happening all throughout the government, and the people that have quietly made things “go” for decades are being lost. When things start to go wrong, let’s remember who to blame. Ideally, not a mushroom cloud…
