I have often wondered if some extra terrestrial civilization monitors us and our progress on this world, with the idea that if and when we seem to have matured as a species that they’ll contact us. Maybe not as dramatically as landing on the White House lawn but a friendly interstellar text, perhaps. But if this is what they’re watching, I think that any invitation to join a greater community than our own is going to be put off for a very, very long time.

One thing about Britt’s interview is that it’s the inverse of fine wine. It actually gets worse the longer it’s out there and the more you see it. My initial reaction to tuning in a few minutes late was, “Why the hell is she grinning?” There was, right from the first frame of the interview, this totally off key, off base set up. So of course it had to turn into a catastrophe.
Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but a SOTU rebuttal is supposed to be a sober, measured communication, filled with facts and analysis. Last year we had Hucky Boo Boo Sanders strolling down memory lane and that was a complete joke, but it was a piece of fluff and easily forgotten.
This year, evidently, Mitch McConnell decided that a female senator would be the perfect vessel to transmit the GOP message and he picked Britt — perhaps to trip up Trump, as I’ve said before. Because either Mitch misunderstood what Britt was going to do or he knew what she was going to do and this was his way of tanking Trump. We will never know.
But the Britt fiasco will live in the history books and it will be a long ways down the road before anybody takes the title of Worst SOTU Rebuttal away from Katie Britt — who is now heartbroken and money broken as well, so she’s sending out a lot of fundraising emails.
Katie Britt made herself the face of the Trumptanic. Although Marge telling a reporter to fuck off is certainly up there as well. Terrific women, these GOP lawmakers. And that’s what they tell themselves, that they’re superior to their lib sisters.

As for Britt and your comment about fine wine, she by all accounts was considered bright and personable on the Hill, a young Senator with a lot of promise. Even by many Democrats. Using the wine analogy, a bottle of what was supposed to be something good sitting in the rack being kept for a special occasion. You look forward to, at some special gathering uncorking it and letting your guests savor it. But when the big moment comes and you pop the cork it turns out the wine went bad in the bottle! The aroma coming from the bottle ruins the party and you don’t even want to pour it down the sink because of the unpleasant smell but instead shove the cork back in and set it out in the yard so you can pour it out later. With your mouth and nose covered. Then try to forget it. That’s Katie Britt now.
I think they opened the bottle of ‘Britt’ now because they don’t feel like they will have anymore special occasions in the future.
The fact that the ETs haven’t attempted to make contact could be explained by the fact that they ARE monitoring our broadcasts. That’s the only logical explanation.
