This is getting beyond the pale. The First Amendment is important. Expression of opinion is important. But what you’re about to see now is a right-wing media outlet undermining the judicial system in the name of sabotaging the rule of law. You know full well that if Donald Trump had gotten an acquittal the system would have been deemed to work just fine. And you also know full well that if a hung jury had been reached, this wouldn’t be happening. But because Trump, who is guilty as hell, was found to be guilty on all 34 counts in the hush money trial brought by Alvin Bragg’s Manhattan District Attorney’s office, this is what you are seeing on the airwaves.

If the rule of law isn’t going their way — and God knows it didn’t go Fox’s way last year when they lost a case to the tune of almost $1 billion, they’re going to destroy the rule of law.

What’s disgusting about this is the ultimate tribal thinking. If a judge donates to a party — even a paltry $15 to the Democrats, in the case of Juan Merchan — then that makes the judge a tool of that party. That’s insane. It presupposes that political affiliation is the defining factor of how one does one’s job. That’s ridiculous. It also presupposes that any judge who is a member of either party will only behave in such a manner as to further the interests of that party — such as Aileen Cannon.

Not everybody is like Aileen Cannon. The vast majority of judges are impartial and fact based as they should be.

This is a dangerous precedent to set, what is being done here. Judges are public servants, so yes, information is available about them. And campaign contributions are a matter of public record. But to publicize these judges and those contributions in this context, as a kind of preemptive strike against appeals judges who may or may not hear Donald Trump’s case, is wrong.

And then we get down to the essence of an appeal: has anybody found a reversible error? Not just in Trump’s hush money trial which just concluded, but back in the E. Jean Carroll case which has been done for months? Trump was going to appeal that and the months are ticking by and not one thing has happened.

Public sentiment is being played with. Images of things that are not real are being presented as real for the purpose of manipulating public sentiment. This is not journalism this is propaganda.

I seriously think that we need to get the Fairness Doctrine back. This has gone too far. Fox News capitalizes on ignorance. The normal person on the street doesn’t know in granular detail how the justice system works. They may not know about choosing a jury, how a grand jury convenes, how evidence is proven in a court of law, all kinds of things. To prey upon somebody’s lack of information with lies, for the purpose of deception, is immoral. And it needs to be governed legally in some manner. Bringing back the Fairness Doctrine is probably the easiest way.

  1. It’s equivalent to telling a toddler to cuddle with a black mamba. When were they ever not a propaganda tool? These fascists will get us all killed one way or the other. Why not ask the folks on Venus? Oh. That’s right the planet is too hot for life. Nevermind.

  2. In an effort to not get sued, there is careful wording about political contributions happening “before” it could violate judicial rules. It hurts to get sued! I wonder how many wrongful death suits will be coming when these propagandists finally get somebody killed?! 🤬

    • The MAGApublicans have already gotten well over 500,000 people killed. Why are they not being indicted for over 500,000 cases of murder!?

  3. If I was one of those Appeals Court justices, I’d be plenty miffed. Not enough to sway my decisions, though. Why? Because I’m a Democrat. My MAGAcon brethren? Nah…not so much. They either have their minds made up already or they’re scared shitless…take yer pick, Jed…
