“They’re Trying To Kill Me” – Hunter Biden Tells TRUTH On GOP

I’ve said recently Hunter Biden is done being a an inert punching bag and accepting whatever cheap shots conservatives take at him. His legal troubles should have been over. A deal was struck where he’d plead guilty (even though he’d long ago already paid his back taxes & the penalties) and get probation and the prosecutors reneged, no doubt because GOPers were HOWLING in protest.  Hunter Biden’s attorney isn’t just a good one but one of DC’s top white collar lawyers and one with gumption. This fall they started punching back. Hunter’s gone on offense against the GOP and while it’s no doubt giving the WH Communications Office ulcers and putting his father in an awkward political spot he’s had enough.

Now, Hunter Biden has give voice to something else I’ve written about. As reported by among others The Guardian he went on a friend’s (someone he met in rehab) podcast and spoken an ugly truth about the GOP:

They’re trying to kill me, knowing it would be a pain greater than my father could be able to handle, and so therefore destroying a presidency in that way

As I already said, I’ve not only felt this way about the GOP for a long while now, I’ve said so here on PZ and elsewhere. Now Hunter Biden has put it out there for everyone. He shouldn’t have been the one who had to do it. I understand completely that his father is President and can’t weigh in on this in such a direct manner. There are however any number of prominent Democrats currently serving in Congress or in other top positions in  the Party that could have. Democrats who could with a simple phone call get a prominent journalist to show up with a camera crew and say it. Lots of them could have and SHOULD have done so and done so a long time ago! The Democratic Party owes it to President Biden to have stepped up in a way they know every fiber of his being screams at him to do while also reminding him he can’t to have stepped up his behalf to defend his son.

But they didn’t. Hunter Biden has been left to fend for himself, and in the linked article he explains why he’s speaking directly to this dark, unspoken till now truth. It’s not as the article notes he says in the podcast something new for Republicans. He points out how back in the 1972 campaign Nixon’s good buddy Roger Stone (yes, the same Roger Stone!) tarred leading Democratic contender Ed Muskie by painting his wife as a drunkard. If it takes going after a family member in such a personal way conservatives don’t care. They are quite willing to ruin anyone’s reputation and career including not just belittling them but slandering them. Or even damage National Security in the process. Just ask Valerie Plame. But the topic now, as it has been for too long is Hunter Biden who lays it out:

“They decided that the one way in which they would be able to certainly just undermine my dad’s confidence and ability to continue to campaign and move forward – particularly after the death of my brother – [was] to think that he could lose his son that he just had regained from an almost-death, through addiction,” he said.

Trump began running for re-election as soon as he was sworn in. It wasn’t long before he and his team were looking at who he might face in 2020. From the get-go the one person Trump worried about, the one person he FEARED running against was Joe Biden. It didn’t matter that Biden had retired from public life. Joe Biden had give much over the decades and sure as hell deserved to enjoy these past few years and the ones to come enjoying a quiet semi-retirement. However, the more he saw of Trump the more alarmed he became. It was going to take someone who not only was, but who all Americans were familiar with as being everything Trump wasn’t to beat him. Joe Biden was experienced. Knowledgeable on a vast array of domestic and foreign issues and had experience dealing with them. He had actual connections and bi-partisan ones that even now still sometimes matter.

Worst of all from Trump’s point of view. Joe Biden’s down-to-earth demeanor and his middle class (for so much of his life) credentials were genuine and bullet-proof.  Biden was known. It was all baked in. Even a misstep like his handling of the scandal during Clarence Thomas’ confirmation hearing was baked in and most had moved past it, forgiving if not forgetting. Trump knew the contrast between what the public knew about him and Biden, and worse the contrast between their “styles” was bad for him. But even Roger Stone couldn’t come up with anything on Joe Biden personally or in his career that Team Trump thought would stick.

So they looked to hurt Biden by proxy. In this case, not a candidate’s wife with drinking, but son who was a successful lawyer who practiced for a firm that specialized in international and business law. Now THAT is an area where even those who meticulously try to avoid impropriety can still get caught up in at least the appearance of it. For a dirty political trickster like Stone and other GOPers that was more than enough. They’d “get” Joe Biden by dragging his son through a never ending sewer pipe. That Hunter, unlike his older brother had never fully recovered from their shared childhood trauma was a bonus.

We all saw how devastated Joe Biden was at the death of his son Beau. Lest we forget so was his brother Hunter who lapsed into his worst bout with drug/alcohol addition. Beau’s death was enough to drive Joe Biden into retirement. Hunter’s, especially via suicide would be enough to keep him there. For Stone, Trump and others with such vile, despicable DNA even an attempt would be good enough. So they set about to manufacture a Hunter Biden scandal to if not keep Joe Biden out of the race in 2020 at least keep him from winning.

It didn’t work. Not only that, Hunter beat his addiction although it was difficult and as the linked article notes he admits they came close to their goal at one point.  But that hasn’t stopped the GOP. Biden has been far more successful than he’s given credit for, and faced a daunting set of circumstances every bit as overwhelming as FDR faced when he assumed office. Under the best of circumstances the damage Trump did will take at least a generation to fix but President Biden has gotten us off to one helluva start. All but the crazies in the Republican Party know it. They know it, even if they won’t admit it. In fact, they are glad there was a Joe Biden with the incredible mix of political skills and ability to navigate tough domestic and foreign policy matters on hand to start closing the gaping wounds Trump inflicted. The just don’t like to admit it. Their FEAR of Trump is too great. Because of that, that FEAR the GOP would rather see Biden, and therefore the country fail rather than accept they have been on the wrong side of so many things for so long.

Not to mention they have true crazies in their ranks with no connection to reality. Crazies who think Trump’s MAGA world vision is reality. I sometimes think if Trump told some of these dipsh*ts to cut off a hand like Voldemort got the servant to do in that Harry Potter movie they’d believe his promise of replacing it. And do it. But even for those not that far round the bend there’s that crippling fear that Trump will sic MAGA nation on them.

So, they’ve spent the Biden years fighting tooth and nail and using their very own network and other flat-out RWNJ media to LIE about Biden’s record. Still, the best thing for them since Trump was going to be their nominee again is that Biden wouldn’t even run for a second term. Worse, they reasoned that if they couldn’t drive Hunter Biden to suicide (or at least an attempt) last time around with years to work on him they might do so before the 2024 primaries are done.

Hence the obsession of the GOP with all things Hunter Biden.

Hunter shouldn’t have had to say what he did. First, the GOP should have left things alone. He stepped away from practicing law for a more modest, quiet existence. He’s continued to stay out of any role in politics other than a bit of cheerleading for his dad. But GOPers won’t let go of him any more than they would of Bill Clinton or Hillary Clinton. Yes, they backed off a little (at least Senators once they got to work with her as a colleague) but never forgave Bill Clinton for being President and Hillary was a way to attack him. The right wing attack machine she referred to was at work all along and when she became a candidate in her own right it ramped up to full power. The viciousness of the attacks on her were as much to “punish” Bill Clinton for being President and being a good one as they were to keep Hillary from being elected.

So it is with Hunter Biden and his father. Trump can never, ever get over Obama’s mocking of him during that WH Correspondent’s Dinner and ever since has gone after Obama both directly and via attacking people close to him (which includes Joe Biden).  In the same manner, Biden kicking his ass by close to eight million votes is something Trump’s ego simply can’t handle. He wants to destroy Biden too. And he wants to destroy Biden’s son Hunter who wouldn’t up and kill himself back in 2020. So if Trump is demanding Republicans keep trying then they sure as hell will as we have seen.

This is all so disgusting. I’ve been watching for Trump’s reaction to this. However I’m sure Hunter Biden is prepared for it. I also wouldn’t be surprised if folks like the Lincoln Project and Meidas Touch aren’t already on the lookout. From where I sit now that Hunter Biden has dropped this TRUTH into the mix they will feel like they’ve got his okay to use it to take on Trump. And if Trump’s idiot sons get involved? Popcorn time!

Still, I’m angry Hunter Biden had to voice this himself. It’s past time Democrats on the Hill start saying the same thing. Can you imagine what Jamie Raskin can do given free rein to speak to this?  Or Nancy Pelosi who has had her husband attacked in their home?  GOPer’s have tag-team attacked Hunter Biden for years. It’s high time Democrats back up Hunter and Joe Biden with a tag-team COUNTER attack.
