The Worst Job In Washington

Let’s see if the Classless Clown in Chief says anything about the murder of the State House Speaker and her husband in Minnesota today, and the shooting of John Hoffman, a Minnesota state senator, and his wife, in their homes by a suspect who had an entire roster of Democrats that he intended to kill today. A birthday present to his king, perhaps? In any normal world, a sitting president would have already spoken up. But we no longer live in a normal world, this is the Era of Trump and the worst of the lunatic fringe are in the ascendant on any given day. And that includes members of Trump’s cabinet.

Here’s a post from earlier which has since been corrected by Donald, but too late. The internet never forgets. And that leads me to wonder, “Whose job is it to inform Trump that he’s made an ass of himself online, once again, and he needs to correct it?” That’s got to be the worst job in Washington. Maybe members of his inner circle take turns?

“Perade.” It will go down in the anals annals of Trump history in the same class as covfete — which Sean Spicer attempted to defend as secret code for a short time, remember that? He tried to pitch that Trump spoke in code to certain, classified people, but the explanation was so stupid that even he abandoned it after a day or two. Plus Sean was too busy looking for the lost aircraft carrier. That’s a time consuming endeavor and I hope I never have that job, either.

But covfefe and perade lead us to the heart of the matter, which is that the man in the White House is stupider than the yous and mes. That’s a new one. Even Dubya, who was in over his head on so many levels, was a Harvard MBA and I don’t think he paid people to take the SAT or his exams for him. I believe that Trump did.

Harry Truman was not the most educated of men but he had horse sense and he was a self made man. That kind of a background is priceless in a politician. Truman knew how the system worked because it was a system that he navigated from the ground up.

Trump doesn’t know how anything works. He was born to obscene wealth and he can’t manage money at all. But he doesn’t know that. Ask him and he’ll probably tell you that six bankruptcies is normal. His niece, Mary, acknowledges that she’s not good at managing money either. Maybe that’s an occupational hazard of the rich. I certainly wouldn’t know. But I appreciate Mary’s honesty.

Trump never attempted to do anything in his life other than get attention. He wanted people to believe that he was some fantasy projection of his own psyche, rather than who he in fact was. That’s the disturbing part about his ascendance in politics, is what it says about our culture and the values we hold.

Everything about Trump is contrived, phony, and bought. And evidently that’s something that a great many Americans think is fine, because that’s what they voted for. MAGAs will acknowledge voting for him because he’s an idiot. You rememeber Ethan Crumbley, the 15-year-old shooter who got sentenced to life imprisonment without possibility of parole? Crumbley’s mother said that Trump was “real” to her and she based this perception of authenticity upon his poor speaking skills. In other words, she heard him speak, realized he was stupid, but that stupidity made him “real” and so she became a MAGA on the spot.

That’s the irony of Trump’s success. People vote for him — and evidently “trust” him — because they know he’s a moron. What does that say about us? Even in the animal world, the other members of the pack don’t pick the stupidest dog to lead. That’s not how it works in nature and it didn’t used to be how it works in politics. But it is that way now.

And do you remember Thomas Massie’s comments? In 2017, Massie said that voters, when presented with libertarian candidates such as himself, Ron Paul, and Rand Paul, would vote for the “craziest son of a bitch in the race”. Massie also said that Trump “won best in class” in this regard. Massie was asked about this in 2023, when he said, “Yes, he [Trump] still is [the craziest son of a bitch in the race]. There’s no doubt. But he’s also the most indicted candidate. And I think that’s our problem now.” 

One would think so, but that’s not how it worked out. The craziest son of a bitch in the race is also a convicted felon (on 34 counts, no less.) And that was simply ignored in 2024, as was the fact of him inciting an insurrection at the Capitol. And the fact that 1.1 million Americans died on his watch from COVID. And the fact that Trump demonized the world’s foremost epidemiologist because he had to have a scapegoat to distract from his own gross incompetence.

We’ve got this dummy back in office. He won by a narrow majority but he won, in any event. And he’s that much more demented, old, and delusional than he was before. Whatever state the world is in today, at the end of Trump’s term, look for it to be in a very different place. All the signs are there.

And for the immediate future, keep an eye on Iran and brace yourself for the return punch.
