The Secret weapon That Saves Social Security, Medicare, and Obamacare

I’ve written previously why they put people into so called think tanks. It’s because they’re capable of tripping over their laces while they’re wearing sandals. Remember the old adage, Those that can, do. Those that can’t, teach. 

Those who thought I was joking when I recommended that Democrats, not just in congress but Democratic state Attorneys General, sue every time Traitor Tot farts in public as an EPA hazard violation. Baron von Schitzenpantz will learn what Biden learned the hard way. Mainly, that executive orders ain’t worth what they used to be. See Bidens executive orders on student loans and immigration, shot down by GOP state Attorney’s General. Even if they survive, it will take 12-18 months to unravel, and now the midterms are here.

Social Security, Medicare, and Obamacare are a different kettle of fish. They’re laws, and The Pampers President can’t just wave a magic wand. It will take legislative action to get rid of those, and that’s where the wheels fall off of the Trumpster Dumpster.

It doesn’t really matter who the next senate Majority Leader is, he isn’t going to gut Medicare and Social Security, and uproot Obamacare without facing a certain filibuster, and he ain’t gonna have the votes for that. Now, with 52 votes in the Senate, the GOP can bring a floor vote to scuttle the filibuster, but they ain’t gonna get that either, and here’s why.

He’s going to have to go up against the Machiavelli of the Senate, one Mitch McConnell. And McConnell, whether he’s the Senate Majority Leader or not still owns the moderate GOP Senate base, lock, stock, and barrel. And he will never do anything that will torpedo the filibuster.

Cast your mind back to Traitor Tot’s first term. Even though the Democrats were in the minority, they basically neutered El Pendejo ex Presidente’s agenda simply by filibustering everything that came up for a vote. Trump furiously demanded that McConnell nuke the filibuster so he could pass his agenda. McConnell refused.

Because Mitch McConnell has more political savvy in his little finger than The Cheeto Prophet has in his entire body. McConnell’s reasoning was sound, strategically as well as politically. Sooner or later the worm would turn in the Senate again, and the GOP would want that hammer. And McConnell was right. Just look at the insane amount of stuff that the Democrats would have passed in Biden’s first term if he had nuked the filibuster back in 2018.

There’s a reason why Social Security and Medicare have been called the third rail of politics. You touch it and you die. McConnell knows that even tweaking Social Security and Medicare in a downward direction would cost the GOP every single 55+ voter in the country. They’d never get a majority again.

And Obamacare is just as bad. Not only is it very popular, but after more than a decade of full implementation, the ACA’s rules and regulations are now irretrievably enmeshed in insurance company rules and policies. Uproot the ACA, and not only do millions of Americans lose healthcare coverage, but the health insurance companies are left with an irreparable system to write policies, since half of the rules no longer exist. Remember, even policies not sold on the exchange still have to have the laws benefits for paying customers too.

Here’s how I see it breaking down. Whomever the new Senate Majority Leader is calls a motion to the floor to nuke the filibuster. It only takes 50 votes, and the GOP has 52. That is, until McConnell, Murkowski and Collins vote NO. If the GOP has a 53rd seat, then John Cornyn just adds his vote and it still fails. What does McConnell care? He’s not running again, and Murkowski and Collins want payback for the betrayal that was laid on them by Trump’s SCOTUS picks. And Cornyn still wants to be Senate Majority Leader in a saner Senate.

Traitor Tot is going to have the same problem in the Senate that he had/has in the House. Even with the majority, the majorities aren’t big enough. There are still enough moderate GOP members in both chambers to team with Democrats to stall the more politically damaging aspects of the MAGA agenda. And the surest way of doing that in the  senate is to keep the filibuster up and running. And that’s exactly what I think they’ll do. Because nothing has changed since 2018.
