It was a shock yesterday when Trump broke yet another precedent in the history of the presidency. He actually said, “They don’t know what the fuck they’re doing,” in reply to a question about Iran and Israel breaking the ceasefire which Trump had been touting as being not only a permanent resolution to tensions in the area (yes, he is that naive) but the basis for him receiving a Nobel Peace Prize (which was the only reason he bothered to send the bunker busters.)
But, we now find out, there is yet another compelling reason beyond the Nobel Peace Prize which forced Trump to take the action aganst Iran, which some advisors were unquestionably telling him not to take. That’s the problem with Trump. He won’t listen to his advisors and what good are advisors if you don’t listen to them? And he said as much, in veiled comments. Kakistocracy Karoline said that he would “trust his instincts.” So now he’s Luke Skywalker using the Force? So it would appear.
But there is a concrete reason having to do with Trump’s popularity that is at play here and it’s hiding in plain sight: Trump dropped the F-bomb out of sheer frustration that now the evangelicals will realize that he’s not the Chosen One, he’s just some damn fool.
How did 77 million people actually vote for this lunatic?

It’s not the f-word I object to. I use salty language myself. But I would never use it in public, let alone on live TV, let alone in conjunction with the burning news story of the day. Because to do so indicates that you’re, in fact, the one who doesn’t know “What the fuck they’re doing.”
Now on to the evangelicals and their part in Trump’s profane display.
According to Salon’s Marcotte, Trump’s overly frank cursing when talking to reporters is a sign that he is being pushed over the edge by a very demanding segment of his base.
As she pointed out, there is a belief among many evangelicals that Trump is the chosen one sent to Earth “to usher in the end times, and that attacking Iran is necessary to bring about the end of the world and the return of Jesus Christ.”
The longtime political observer wrote Trump’s outburst could be a sign that he has had enough of dealing with an issue he never wanted to take up in the first place.
Admitting the president is feeling a modicum of pressure from the anti-interventionist wing of his MAGA base, Marcotte wrote that evangelicals are not as easily mollified when it comes to meeting Jesus.
“The pressure from Trump’s evangelical base offers insight into why he is cracking,” she suggested. “He almost certainly would like to leave his intervention in Iran behind. But he can’t say no to evangelicals, because he knows that he’s nothing without them.”
There’s no question that the religious vote is a key one. That’s why David Barton, a faux historian and evangelical wingnut in Texas, started the lie that Trump was “born again” in May of 2016, when it was becoming obvious that Ted Cruz would not get the nomination and Donald Trump would. Then a month or so later, James Dobson, who had his own radio show, went to meet Trump in Trump Tower and he proclaimed the glad tidings that Trump was a “baby Christian” and all the evangelical nitwits swallowed this drivel.
That is the story. And Mike Pence (who had been interviewed on Dobson’s show and called it, “the greatest honor of my life,”) ended up tacked onto the Trump ballot to secure evangelical support. Now here’s the real reason that the evangelicals love Trump and you won’t blink an eye at this.
Noting that this generation of evangelicals want to be the lucky ones to see “Jesus return to earth,” she added, “… more importantly, the promise of the end times is useful for televangelists and other Christian right influencers. As long as dramatic talk of the apocalypse feeds them money and attention, the leaders will be reluctant to let go of their dream of a bigger war with Iran.”
Money and attention, folks. Money and attention. That’s what fuels the coffers of the prosperity consciousness *pastors* and they are grifters just like Trump. Trump is a corrupt *politician* so it’s not the least bit surprising he has a corrupt *church* backing him. And he tried to please them and knows that he can’t because this foreign policy stuff is wayyyy over his head — just like COVID was. And the conversation about either one of those topics is filled with the same hyperbole and wishful thinking. Remember the black lights and the bleach?
So there you have it. Trump lost it on live TV because he’s under pressure from the evangelical wingnuts to prove that he’s the Chosen One and he failed. That, and he realizes that there’s not going to be any Nobel Peace Prize. Damn.

I am a devout believer, but their actions and ambitions should make them look at Amos 5 rather than Revelation.

We have seen the same such nonsense thinking since the beginning of time and we will see it again in the future. There is nothing new under the sun.
Thank you, Wayne, for another Bible reference that Talibangelicals need to hear. Not that it will stop their nonsense. As G. K, Chesterton put it, “Sir Arthur St. Clare, as I have already said, was a man who read his Bible. That was what was the matter with him. When will people understand that it is useless for a man to read his Bible unless he also reads everybody else’s Bible?”
That day is a long way off still.
As I recall from my reading on the whole “End Times” folderol, it’s supposed to be the ANTICHRIST who sets the whole thing in motion. Of course, the Antichrist is supposed to be charismatic and unifies the whole earth, except for the “true believers.” (Then too, the Antichrist is supposed to deceive the unwary–and, damn, if the evangelicals supporting Drumpf aren’t among the most unwary of people on Earth.)
Using inappropriate language is also a sign of dementia.
Having watched my father succumb to Alzheimer’s, I recall him saying wildly offensive things.
Not just swearing but making casually racist remarks.
Things he never would have said in his younger years.
When the stupidest man on earth spews about others not knowing what THEY are doing…that’s either funny or tragic, given the powers legal and otherwise this lunatic has at his disposal. Hey irony…great news! You’re not dead after all.
Quite a few people think trump is a good candidate for the antichrist But not the evangelicals, he is supposed to be the bad guys’ leader, like you know, maybe George Soros. Honestly, it’s ridiculous They think they are seeing “the signs of the times,” the second coming, but wat I’m seeing is a parody of the second coming.
“The pressure from Trump’s evangelical base offers insight into why he is cracking,” she suggested. “He almost certainly would like to leave his intervention in Iran behind. But he can’t say no to evangelicals, because he knows that he’s nothing without them.”
The thing about truth is that when you’re on the right path, everything fits together. The thing about endless lies is that nothing firs together, and nothing is natural, everything is forced. And it still doesn’t work . Reminds me of the proverbial “riding a tiger.” It’s just going to get worse.
It also reminds of this famous book:When Prophecy Fails, by Festinger, Riecken, and Schachter (1956). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_Prophecy_Fails
The MAGAts are a much bigger group, but the dynamics will be the same.
The failing of lies (and fiction in books and films) is that, to work, they have to make sense with the loose ends tidied up so that all is explained. Truth just IS, sometimes neat and logical but, often, inexplicable.
