Tomorrow is the second anniversary of January 6, 2021, a day which will certainly live in infamy along with December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001. Cast your mind back to that day and the days before it.

Lauren Boebert was giving tours of the Capitol prior to the riot and tweeting out Nancy Pelosi’s location in the building the day of the riot.  Remember that? Marjorie Taylor Greene considers the whole thing a joke. She quipped at a Republican event in New York recently that if she and Steve Bannon had been there, with their guns, they would have won. The rioters would have won. Greene also went with Louie Gohmert to the jail where rioters are held to plead their cause, because she considers them heroes.

Both Boebert and Greene are election deniers, and they’re at the forefront of this delay tactic which has the government paralyzed. This is not normal. These people are not normal politicians, they are performance artists and insurrectionists. We need to wake up and the adults in Congress need to take charge.

This is what is going on. We have a government which is being held hostage right now by the same group of people who were at the very least indifferent to the January 6 rioting and at the most in collusion with. This is pure theater for them.

We need to get the actors off the stage and get down to the serious business of running the country.

Republicans are NOT a serious governing body. That is exactly what is going on here. And you know who else says it? The Wall Street Journal:

The problem any GOP leader faces today is that too many Republicans don’t really want to hold and keep political power. They’re much more comfortable in opposition in the minority, which is easier because no hard decisions or compromises are necessary. You can rage against “the swamp” without having to do anything to change it. This is the fundamental and sorry truth behind the Speaker spectacle and the performative GOP politics of recent years.

There you go. The bastion of conservative journalism is nailing the issue four square along with the liberals. That tells me that the problem is glaringly obvious.

I see only one solution here. The Republicans that are sane are going to have to cross the aisle and talk to the Democrats and the adults in the room are going to have to reach a solution. Kevin McCarthy is a walking, slow suicide. I’ve never seen anything like this. The closest I’ve seen is when people who are strung out on drugs or alcohol kill themselves a little more daily. McCarthy is strong out on power and ambition and he just can’t let go.

After 11 freaking rounds with the same result, I don’t think it’s remiss to ask that we look at what Einstein said about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. McCarthy even looks shell shocked.

The adults need to take charge. I see no other way. If Bob Good does have Fred Upton lined up, then maybe he should nominate Upton and let’s get something sane going on. This is seriously out of control. Every incumbent in that chamber took an oath to uphold the constitution, not to paralyze the government. Let’s see them put their actions in line with their oaths.

  1. I don’t hold out much hope for any change. These people see their oaths as just something they say.

    Just another lie.

    Told to further their greed.

    • You’re absolutely right, if we’re talking about this crowd that is pulling this stunt. But the Democrats take things seriously and I have to believe that there are some sane Republicans left in Congress. If there aren’t, then I don’t know what we’re going to do. The founding fathers foresaw a lot of things, but not an era when men and women in politics would totally lose their moral compass.

  2. I’m far more cynical over this. Only thing they’re doing is burning up what little leverage and juice they have left to their own harm. One need not look further than the reports of Republican congress critters talking of leaving for the weekend rather than help McCarthy play Don Quixote any longer for proof. Enough of them leave, Dems are in the driver’s seat. And the Freedom Caucus is less relevant than ever.

  3. In 1855 the last time this occurred there were many parties. Parties split over slavery. churches split over slavery. Maybe insurrection will split a major party.

    • That’s already happened. If the Republican party has descended to Gaetz, Greene, and Boebert, the party is done. I don’t know where it’s going from here, but here’s what’s obvious: if the next two years are a culture war shit show and nothing gets done, it’s very likely that the GOP could lose the house badly in 2024. There could be a unified Democratic government in 2024 (please God!) and the GOP could really be self-immolating. That they don’t see this blows me away.

      • It might, only might mind you, be gasping its dying breaths but it did manage to obtain a majority in the House. Poo-poo the size of that majority but it still will eventually give them power to make someone’s life miserable and in doing so they will provide quite the circus for their base.

Having that majority is going to give them oxygen they shouldn’t have. It gives them a platform that all the media outlets will report on every day which will allow their message to spew forth like so much sewage. That sewage appeals to their base and quite likely to republicans in general. Their base seems to think destroying the government will make their lives something other than shit. The party became what Jindal most feared: the party of stupid. It’s become THE political party for a very large portion of a country that is not, let’s face it, a country of intellectuals and appeals to those on the wrong side of that particular bell curve.

Much as I want to see this party, and especially the freeedumb caucus, get destroyed, it hasn’t happened yet and likely won’t in the south or places like IA, KS, OH, etc. The center 3/4’s of our nation is one bright red blood stain-that’s not going away anytime soon.

        • A majority only matters if everyone stays on the same page, Spike. Otherwise, it’s constant internal sabotage that cripples you. Pelosi understood that, none of the GOP do.

  4. Love the FACT that the 14th amendment means NOTHING as we allow 148 insurrectionists to take oaths of power to destroy democracy from within. Great job by all those law school grads!!! I wonder how many people are sitting in jail as political prisoners for smoking cannabis, while a former speaker of the house has a cannabis business. America…LAND OF HYPOCRISY!!! Cue up the feckless excuses.

  5. There you go!! A pissant in favor of overthrowing our government! Another armchair dissenter with nothing risked as usual. Come on cockroaches…put forth an argument.

  6. The answer may be easier than we thought … Doesn’t the DOJ hold a wad of paper showing these losers forming and supporting the plans to hit the Capitol building?
The Jan06 committee seemed to offer a couple bushels of evidence to the DOJ … any word from the usual sources that the US AG is ready to permanently crash the GOP’s backroom money?

The biggest names in the news about idiots, including Gaetz and Jordon makes me wonder if the mess in the House could suddenly clear out, along with perp-walked Bo Butt, MGT, Jordon, Gaetz, and I would love a certain black judge, with a wife who IS a National Risk to step down, opening another Judge position up for Biden to fill …

Is there any actual reason the DOJ cannot pull the plug on this vermin in the GOP underbelly?

Trump has been banned from any thinking people’s club house … His bleeding heart pain is always a pleasure to see … the biggest mess at Mar-o-golf is about to happen, now that lawsuits may occur in his behalf from the injured or families of the murdered at the Capitol incident … His attackers in court approved law suits will be lucky to get one penny off Trump, but Trump being unable to pay will put him closer to his true color – Bright orange.

  7. As a sailor you never go out into the ocean without a rudder or just letting the sails flap in the breeze. The best possible outcome is you go nowhere. In a storm you’ll end up like Luka Brazzi…sleeping with the fishes. The house is full of traitors and clueless idiots. The reef awaits the wreckage of our government…soon to arrive.
