There is nothing funnier than watching the stupid lead the blind. And when you have a House Speaker who goes by the nickname of MAGA Mike, and he’s leading a caucus that looks like nothing more than a 3rd grade gymnastics class tumbling around on the mats trying to please Traitor Tot, what could go wrong?

Right now the GOP led(?) House will call a motion to the floor to open an official impeachment inquiry against President Joe Boden, this despite the fact that now Speaker Mike Johnson said only three months ago that he didn’t see sufficient evidence to open an inquiry. What changed? Speaker Johnson is taking his orders from Traitor tot now.

At the moment senior House GOP leadership is confident that it has the votes to pass the motion. Right, and I think I’m getting thinner every day. If you’re the Speaker of the House, you’re not supposed to think, you’re supposed to know. After all, that’s what your bloody House Whip is for, to count the votes.

Nut the GOP House has a long history of piss poor counting from their whips, going all the way back to when John Boehner had young gun Eric Cantor as his whip. Boehner famously called two bills to the floor that went down in flames on the same day. Counting isn’t a GOP strong suit, unless you’re counting years in federal prison.

But this would be an incredibly difficult whip count even for a veterano like Steny Hoyer. because this time there’s a wild card that GOP House Whip Steve Scalise can’t possibly account for. Allow me to explain.

Have you ever been piss miserable at your job? You hate even showing up. So you secretly call in sick to go and interview, and you get a new job. What next? You give your two weeks notice. And from that moment on you’re bulletproof. You work at your own pace, do what you want. What are they gonna do, fire you?

There’s the GOP’s problem. They think that they have the votes, which is delusional since they only have three votes to spare, and several moderate House members have been complaining all along that there’s no there there when it comes to an impeachment inquiry against Biden. These are members in highly competitive districts that are already sick of the MAGA bullsh*t.

But this time, there are more than 20 GOP incumbents who have already announced that they’re retiring at the end of the session. And most of them are moderates who don’t want to have to go through the bullsh*t of yet another far right challenge in a primary. See my last paragraph. Who feels more liberated and free than a politician who never has to face the voters again?

And this could turn into an existential crisis for fledgling Speaker MAGA Mike. Earlier this week they said the quiet part out loud again, that The entire purpose of the inquiry was to impeach Biden in time to give Trump some ammo against his own two impeachments. There literally is no there there, it’s just more political theater. And since several of them have been bitching all along about the futility, why would they feel obligated to play ball when they’re on the way out the door?

This is a dangerous vote for Johnson. It’s Trump’s demand that Johnson get him an impeachment of Biden to take the sting out of his own two impeachments. But if MAGA Mike can’t carry the water, if he not only can’t get Biden impeached, but if the freakin’ motion for the inquiry goes down in flames, Trump’s fury will know no bounds.

Johnson is safe for the short term, since the Freedom caucus needs him to to sell out the base to continue those pesky CR’s that will keep the government functioning past election day. But after that, all bets are off. And since the GOP House has no interest in governing, who cares how long they dumblefutz around trying to elect  new Speaker. Hell, it’s all performance theater anyway.

I thank you for the privilege of your time.

  1. What? Where, where?

The phrase “there’s no there there…” needs to be banished from the lexicon. It’s sounds stupid and it’s confusing. Everybody please, stop it. Instead, explain yourself.

    • The phrase has been around for DECADES–it’s not likely to go anywhere now.

Per Wiktionary, the phrase means “The indicated thing, person, or other matter has no distinctive identity, or no significant characteristics, or no functional center point; nothing significant exists in that place; nothing significant is occurring in that situation.”

So, when Murf wrote, what he meant in writing “several moderate House members have been complaining all along that there’s no there there when it comes to an impeachment inquiry against Biden” is that “there’s no distinctive identity and no significant characteristic” in launching an impeachment because Biden has DONE NOTHING TO MERIT THE INQUIRY.

If you’re so stupid that YOU don’t understand it, then maybe YOU need to take a reading comprehension course. The phrase was PERFECTLY understandable given it came IMMEDIATELY after the subject it to which it referred.

  2. This is the third or fourth of Mr. Murphy’s posts I’ve read. Please ask Mr. Murphy to proofread.
(Moderator’s Note: My apologies. Regular’s here know Murf’s eyesight is quite poor due to glaucoma. It’s a challenge for him to make out what’s on a computer screen and some days are better than others. I try sometimes to provide some help on this but I live three time zones ahead of him and often have gone to bed by the time the bulk of his articles get posted. So please, cut my fellow Cubs fan some slack)

    • Glaucoma does not usually affect central (reading) vision. I, for one, have had acute angle glaucoma (cup to disc ratio now .7 to .75), cataracts, multiple episodes of acute bilateral anterior uveitis, and beginning macular degeneration. I also have a glitchy virtual keyboard that is slightly slipped to one side so that keys often register as the one to the the side of the one pressed. And yet I still manage to catch most of my errors. Retired optometrist here. So, my view is that, as much as I enjoy Murph’s writing, he still needs to get his act together with regard to proofreading, because the automated spell-checking is not sufficient.

        • Autocorrection is, at times. worse than useless. Type ‘boot’ for ‘boat’ or swap letters so that ‘boats becomes ‘boast’ and it bithely accepts that. If the mis-spelt word is in the dictionary, it will simply let it pass.

Additionally, spell-checkers normally operate by underlining the incorrect word – if you have vision problems (as Murfster does) then it’s as useful as a fridge in an igloo

  3. For Johnson, as with prior GOP Speakers (especially in the age of Trump) the job consists of standing before the caucus at their closed-door meetings and saying:

  4. Smart thing to do here would be Wait and See. A) there are no “moderate” ‘pubes in the house (not sure there are any left in the senate). B) ultimately any pol wanting to continue to be one is going to pander to their base. Not to beat a dead horse but the ‘pube base is in large part made of magats. If you want to keep your seat in congress you WILL need to please magats. The only pols not held to this are those in swing districts. I honestly don’t think those pols are going to keep their seats regardless of who they blow.

I point out to you all what is happening in the MT senate race. Jon Tester has done a good job for montanans and an especially good job for veterans. His main competition (and I am aware of no other candidates) is some joker who has been hiding money from the IRS and DOR in the Caymans, not paid back federal loans (I call it stealing), and who has made everyone aware he is an ardent trump supporter. Right now he is polling ahead of Jon Tester. That’s right, the idiots in MT want a tax cheat, someone who pussies out on loans, and who wants democracy gone. Did I mention he is polling ahead of the Montana farmer who has done MUCH for montana?

On a planet with the hillbillies of the universe occupying it, MT has probably the most idiots per capita.
