Actress and singer Bette Midler and former President Donald Trump have long had a hate-hate relationship. Now Midler has upped the ante by collaborating with the MeidasTouchNetwork on an advertisement that’s just dripping with satire and it’s one of the funniest songs I’ve heard in a while. The “ad” is filled with zingers about this Trump-themed perfume that makes you smell like “a big fat loser,” which Middler sings right in the first line, LGBTQNation reports.
Midler sings other flattering lines in the video that begin with “You can smell just like a big fat loser. You can reek like a repulsive fool”
Wow, Trump ought to be in a mood after he hears that one.
As part of the overlay, we hear slight farting noises as the text reads “odor in the court,” obviously skewering Trump for allegedly farting during his criminal trial in New York.
“with a hint of sexual abuses and toxic notes of universal. if you like a frangrance that’s psychotic, infused with rage and defamation too, a litany of likes so pathologic, eu du trump is certainly the stench for you.”
The video follows that up with a list of hilarious potential side effects, including stupidity, incessant whining, deceit, disgrace, treason, and comb-overs.
Midler and Trump have been fighting a war of words since 2019 when Trump called Midler a “washed-up” and a “psycho” in a Twitter dust-up. Midler had posted a meme with a fake quote attributed to Trump, where Republicans are pelted by insults when he claims “They’re the dumbest group of voters in the country…. I could like and they’d still eat it up.” Apparently Trump never said that but it’s been a popular meme on social media since 2015.
Midler apologized at the time, noting: “I apologize; this quote turns out to be a fake from way back in ’15-16. Don’t know how I missed it, but it sounds SO much like him that I “believed it was true!
That’s when Trump fired back that Midler was a “washed-up psycho” and “a sick scammer.”
Welp, them’s fightin’ words for Midler and she excoriated for his endless string of lies.
“yes, one must always check the quotes. that should take up, oh, maybe 23 of the 24 hours in the day? because there are so many lies, most of them generated by trump himself, that the task of separating the truth from the lies is impossible. which is just how he likes it.”
It’s commendable that Midler has so effectively skewered Trump, but as LGBTQNation notes, she’s done one thing that is definitely uncool. She is another person who, like J.K. Rowling, appears to be anti-transgender and has claimed on social media that somehow realizing the humanity of trans people will “erase” women.
This is so sad, especially since Midler has gained many fans in the gay community during her decades-long career. Early on she performed in a gay bathhouse in the 70s. She’s proud of that and she has often spoken out in favor of gay rights.
Maybe someday she’ll realize that trans people aren’t “erasing” women. They are just trying to survive since they are so heavily repressed by religious right-wing zealots in the U.S.
But even so, Midler’s funny ad excoriating Trump provides an injection of humor during these times that are so fraught with stress.
We need that. And Trump definitely deserves it.
