Speaker Emeritus Pelosi Calls Out MSNBC Anchor As Trump Apologist

Well, this is a stunning breath of fresh air and something that needs to happen more often. I don’t know what the hell happened to MSNBC’s Katy Tur but last month the 3pm host went all doom and gloom running down President Biden. She wasn’t alone I should say, and when things shook out and some polling was available in less than a week she and others started talking sense again. But it’s clear Tur didn’t learn her lesson and tried to spin jobs numbers in Trump’s favor while interviewing former Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Bad move, especially with Pelosi there in the studio sitting across the table. Pelosi wasn’t tolerating any of the bullsh*t and smacked Tur down. HARD.

There’s a brief (too brief) story about the exchange by The Hill and it’s blunt. Pelosi was on to promote the President’s job creation record (and it IS record setting) while also pointing out the fact Trump had the worst jobs creation of any President. Whatever demon has at some point taken over Tur tried to spin (maybe on orders from the Executive Suite?) Trump’s having had to contend with a pandemic. Pelosi wasn’t having any of it:

Tur briefly interjected, telling Pelosi “there was a global pandemic” during Trump’s presidency.

Pelosi paused, looking shocked, before shooting back at Tur that “he had the worst record of any president. We’ve had other concerns in our country.”

“If you want to be an apologist for Donald Trump, that may be your role, but it ain’t mine,” she added.

Katy Tur had to feel like the most popular kid in her 6th grade class in a Catholic School who just read her book report from the front of the room. And the nun leaping up to stare down at her and say “Miss Tur, how DARE you try that in my class. It’s one of the best reports on that book I’ve ever heard, which is why I remember hearing your COUSIN give the exact same report years ago when I subbed for another teacher!  Report to the office and tell Father Jones what you’ve done but ask him to wait for me so we can call your parents together!”

Well, Tur managed to try and push back saying “I don’t think anyone can accuse me of that.”  Actually Katy I/we can. Today as I’ve noted isn’t the only time lately you’ve done just that. However let’s just stick to jobs. As for job losses during the second through fourth quarters of 2020 because of COVID at least some, even a significant amount was inevitable. However, Trump’s initial denial of the problem and subsequent botching of the response made things a lot worse than it had to be.

But let’s take a broader look, starting with that chart in the title picture. Trump inherited a humming economy with low unemployment and modest but sustained annual job growth. It took a couple of years but Obama fixed the bulk of the mess created under Bush 41 and by his second term had things on quite solid footing and poised for better. Obama, as were most people (except the mega rich folks) frustrated the full benefits of the recovery wasn’t being felt by average Americans/households but as I said with the right leadership things had a good chance of doing so.

Trump was anything but the right kind of leadership. Oh, he crowed about how HE had created record job growth and the lowest unemployment in history which of course was complete, unadulterated bulllsh*t. But lots of people swallowed it. Things kind of ran along on autopilot for a few years but even without COVID bad times were coming. Also, the fact is that in a year by year comparison Trump never matched (got close once to be fair) the annual job growth of the years of Obama’s second term! THEN came COVID and Trump’s disastrous handling of it.

However, the ONE legislative “accomplishment” Trump did pass was that third supply side tax cut. One geared of course to rich folks. Like say major network “talent” who don’t like paying taxes any more than the rest of us. For those secure in their jobs, deregulation that allows media consolidation means ever more money for THEM. It’s not not surprising, to me at least that sometimes the “talent” tries to spin things to keep Democrats from getting too much control.  And let’s face it Katy, I’m sure you’re upset about the loss or reproductive rights but people like YOU aren’t really affected. People like YOU, and someday your kids can easily afford a little “medical tourism” to obtain birth control, or if needed an abortion. Spare me the crocodile tears on that one.

My point is that even without COVID as the effects of his massive tax cut had had a chance to take hold it’s a certainty that job growth would have dipped in Trump’s last year (2020). So when someone like Nancy Pelosi who is worth a hundred of YOU Katy Tur tells you you’re a Trump apologist it means you’ve gone round the bend. Tur, I think is probably nursing some major hurt feelings tonight. She was accused by an icon of being a P.O.S. and worse, the accusation was TRUE!  I’ll bet she couldn’t get her butt out of 30 Rock fast enough when her show wrapped. And I wouldn’t be surprised if she takes some days off due to “one of the kids being sick” because she knows her colleagues quickly learned all about Nancy Pelosi disemboweling her on the air.  Oh the looks she’s going to be getting! And I say good. She should be truly ashamed. But then, she’s hardly alone.

Still it was a helluva moment. Man do I love and admire Nancy Pelosi. She’s a true leader and I hope like hell other Democrats will be inspired by her example and just as bluntly call out the network “talent” when they try to normalize Trump or flat out try to dump a truckload of bullsh*t on an interview.
