The thrill is gone on both sides, and now even Traitor Tot knows it. Ever since Trump oozed onto the scene in 2015, spewing hatred and sexism like a toxic volcano, Trump has always been uber proud of his crowd sizes.
And as his warped popularity grew, and he continued to out draw everybody but Bernie Sanders, Trump basically became obsessive about his crowd sizes. And not just about the numbers and the contributions from it, but about appearing in front of them at every opportunity.
This was understandable. From the time he started running Trump was under the gun. First his GOP primary opponents savaged him, then Clinton swiped him up and down. Once he got elected, he got sh*t on for everything he did. For a man with phyllo dough thick skin, this scraped raw. Those insane crowds were a soothing balm for his raw wounds. It went so far that in 2020, in the middle of a Covid crisis, Trump continued to hold Super Spreader rallies, risking his own health and life as well as that of his supporters.
But no more. Now it’s Kamala Harris that’s the rock star. And even when Biden was the candidate, and Trump was outdrawing him, he wasn’t hitting up the same mass capacity arenas he was in 2016 and 2020. Hell, just look at the size of the open air venue where the assassination attempt took place. I’ve seen larger county fairs. And you can tell simply by how close the shooter was able to get on the roof of a building outside the perimeter of the site.
I wrote last Sunday that while Harris and Walz had packed Labor Day schedules, Trump had no appearances scheduled for the week, and the campaign explained that the calendar was fluid, which I took to mean Up sh*t creek. I was right. Over the course of the week, Traitor Tot did a throw together town hall on FUX News with Spawn Manatee, and a fly-by rally in Milwaukee the next day.
He’s lost it, and his supporters know it. In 2016 and 2020, mass events were scheduled at least a week in advance, to properly exploit it, as well as to set up city services and protection. Acolytes actually had to get tickets in advance to get into the freak show. It is logistically impossible to set up a mass rally event in two days. The campaign has read the tea leaves, and given up on even trying to set them up, knowing His Lowness would be highly pissed by a half empty arena.
I think I know why. Back in 2015 and 2020, going to a Trump rally was a cult cultural event, like going to a midnight screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, except the script was different every time.
Trump would waddle out and speak for about an hour. He had a handful of prepared applause lines, and then he free associated for the rest of it. But his rantings were always about sh*t that his base bitched about all the time as well. The thrill of going to repeat rallies was that you never knew what was going to be stuck in his craw that night.
Not anymore. Since his humiliating defeat of 2020, Trump has become paranoid about two issues, The Big Steal, and his ever more pressing legal problems. Also Traitor Tot’s mental sharpness has declined, and to a noticeable extent. He can no longer string three sentences together to make a coherent point, and he’s up to an average of about 90 minutes rant for every rally. Half of the crowd that El Pendejo ex Presidente does draw are late for the door by the 60 minute mark. They’re over the 2020 debacle, and his personal legal problems have nothing to do with them.
An excellent article today, in I believe it’s The New York Times opines that his new strategy is a 2016 redux without the Russian interference. He’ll be barnstorming smaller rural but populated areas of the critical swing states, carrying an incredibly virulent and vile message, hoping to scrape every last uber far right loser off of his couch or out from under his rock to show up on election day, hoping he can scare up just enough of them to tip those critical swing states by a handful of votes.
Personally I think that’s the political equivalent of The Fountain of Youth, or the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but at least they finally have a plan. The biggest problem is Traitor Tot himself. To pull this off he’s going to have to hit multiple venues in one day, some in locations too small for commercial size aircraft without a long car ride. And personally, I don’t think that Trump has either the stamina or the concentration to get it done. Don’t touch that dial.
I thank you for the privilege of your time.
He’s old, he’s tired, he’s past it.
And they can’t hide the senility anymore.
He’s done.
And after he loses the election, he’ll be in jail.
Couldn’t have summed it up better meself…
Time gets past us all…he’s no exception. Spending hours per week with folks in their 80s and 90s that lesson becomes obvious. Given his obesity, diet, and lack of exercise, he’s speeding right along. Let’s pray he holds out til he loses, gets more convictions, and goes to jail.
One possible reason for the decline in ‘big rallies’ is that more pl;aces are asking for cash up front seeing he’s stiffed too many towns for the costs.
Oh and the ‘town hall’ was just ‘Chat with Hannity’ in front of an adoring audience (who couldn’t be trusted to ask even a softball question)
trump had very little “mental sharpness” to begin with. Noticing a decline means that decline is very steep.
There truly has never been a person so ignorant who occupied the w.h. There perhaps has never been anyone so ignorant who has even campaigned to be president.
Until and unless corporate media (formerly known as MSM) starts actually reporting his aberrant behaviour, he’ll still appear “normal” to the average Joe public.
“He’s NUTS!” would be a good headline, repeated daily.
