There’s more than one way to skin the proverbial cat. Donald Trump made the decision to fire the head of the Bureau Of Labor Statistics and so we haven’t been seeing any analysis from them for months. Naturally, this has been blamed on the government shutdown and that was blamed on the Democrats. But there are resources that can provide backdoor figures, such as state employment departments and payroll services. So that is where these figures have been gathered, and as you surmised, we are not living in the booming, golden age economy that the orange man would have you believe that we are.

The Smoot-Hawley tariffs told the tale back in the era of the Great Depression. Trump fantasizes that if he tells people that tariffs are something other than a tax that the consumer pays that people will believe him — and evidently he was right about that. However, you don’t see the big tariff checks going out like you didn’t see the DOGE checks going out. It’s all economic fantasy.
Another jobs report would be due this Friday, if we had a government which was functioning, but don’t depend upon seeing one. You won’t.
