Actually, I’ve been kind of waiting for something like this to happen, although it may be taking a little less time than I thought. I had thought that it would have taken midterm losses for some of the Trump rats to finally start deserting the sinking ship, and for Republicans with actual functioning brain cells to start looking forward to a post Trump world.

But maybe not. Over the weekend a new poll came out, I believe it was a Suffolk poll, of registered GOP voters. By a comfortable 63-37% margin, GOP voters said that they liked the idea of Trump leading the GOP. This actually surprised me, since in most polling. Trump has maintained an iron 75-85% grip on his party’s popularity. Then came the shock. When it came to the prospect of a Trump 2024 run, he survived by the skin of his teeth, 51-49%/

There is no good news here for McCarthy and the House ass kissers. As for the 63-37% number, I think what I predicted months ago is finally starting to show up. Trump’s Rasputin like hold on the GOP required a daily fire hose deluge of bullshit. With his banishment from social media, that has been reduced to a trickle. And when people with actual lives have actual unbiased information seeping in, Trump’s tripe every 3-4 days tends to lose some of its shine and effect. But when you look at the rest of the jackjaws and shitheels that still identify as Republicans, Trump stands above, head and shoulders. And how pathetic is that?

The 51-49% is much more alarming. Since the day that Biden was announced the winner and new President, Trump has been the hands down front runner for the 2024 nomination. To be sure, boxcar hobo’s like Deathsantis, Abbott, and Cruz have started sprinkling seeds around on the ground in case Trump either died, decided not to run again in 2024, or was indicted and convicted. But the general feeling was that nobody would actually challenge him if he chose to run again. Well, Trump isn’t dead, or even indicted, much less convicted, he still seems full of piss and vinegar for another run, and his own party is evenly split.

Look, if strongman Trump is down to 63% support from the overall GOP, that can only mean that some of the Trombie’s are starting to crawl back into boxes of their native earth. The shine is wearing off. McCarthy and the rest of the shameless sycophants have sucked up to Trump to keep his voters. How does this work out? And I honestly believe that if the GOP keeps hammering home trump and Trumpism in 2022, the Democrats pick up seats in the House and the Senate. Women, especially white, suburban GOP women and independents, are going to use the midterms to send a stern message to the GOP for 2024, No more Trump! especially with that insane Texas abortion law looking to be replicated all over GOPghanistan. With the GOP voters so deadlocked right now, this is shaping up to be a hot mess.

And now for 2024. All you have to remember for how the GOP is going to operate going forward is how trump operated his business. He had what was basically a mom and pop bodega, with spotlights lighting up the sky over a corner store to make an impression. But in power, Trump constantly played upper level management personnel against each other, not just for amusement, but to keep them fighting so that they wouldn’t band together to put him out to pasture.

In 2016, Trump didn’t just win the nomination, he went on a character assassination campaign. Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, John Kasich, any qualified candidates who could challenge him, were publicly emasculated and turned into total losers. And the vast majority quietly folded and backed Trump.

So what happens if we get to 2023, and Trump decides to run again with a popularity in his own party stuck in the mid 40’s? Does anybody actually challenge him, and if so, then who? None of the guys named above, Trump ground them into the dirt. And how does a 2024 primary field with Trump, Inglorious MTG, Sugar Daddy Matt Gaetz, He groped me coach! Jim Jordan, and insurrectionist Josh Hawley play out? All of them share one thing in common, they’re all Trombies, and the GOP is finally starting to signal that it’s done with Trump. And if anybody but Trump wins, you can kiss the Trumpaholic vote goodbye, they’re one trick ponies. Don’t touch that dial.

  1. They’re already pushing the stolen/rigged election line in CA – and the official date for voting is tomorrow. Polls, even the least favorable, have NO getting 60%.

    • If they are already trying to push the “rigged/stolen elections” claims days and weeks before the election in California … It’s crystal clear this is the Trump generated path that the GOP will try to take in every election they lose, henceforth. I can’t help but wonder how well that works out for America’s democracy.

  2. There is still too much of Trump getting around his twitter and FB bans by having others post his “from the office of” “press releases. But what I think might be having some effect is the lack of rallies. We’ve talked about Trump feeding his addition to slobbering goobers worshiping him, but they need him too. And there isn’t the steady diet of rallies taking place anymore. And of the handful that have they’ve been mostly underwhelming. Trump WANTS these things to be taking place. But he’s too fucking cheap, and/or too strapped for cash trying to stay liquid enough to keep the Trump Org. afloat. Even worse (for him), I suspect that while he’s demanding aides set up more rallies they are running into problems. Such as even in Trump worshiping places towns and counties that have limited budgets and have seen so many other places get stiffed on reimbursements for the costs of hosting a Trump rally are demanding payment upfront. Non-refundable too, as in even if the mega crowd Trump claims will show up winds up being far smaller since the town/county had to shell out all that money ahead of time they are keeping it.

Wouldn’t you just love to see the tantrums he throws when told how much he has to pay in advance to hold a rally? For all the talk about his having been spoiled by daddy covering his finances and his siblings too (letting him handle the family fortune even though they knew he was grifting them) it was nothing compared to the perks of being President and abusing his office for partisan political stuff that SHOULD have come from campaign coffers! All that is GONE now and he’s got to pay his own way. I don’t think it matters whether it’s because he can’t or out of petulance and generally being a cheapsakete won’t but the fact is we just aren’t seeing many Trump hosted rallies with him standing up there on the stage ranting his word salads to dumbass MAGAts. And that I think accounts for the slippage. His “adoring masses” need their fix too and they aren’t getting it, and they are starting to realize there isn’t some date on the calendar where he’s going to be within a five or six hour drive.

Or perhaps more accurately a couple of hours. Could it be that people are no longer willing to drive five or six hours (one way) to hear him and that’s why attendance has been underwhelming? Hey, for a change I might have actual happy thoughts when I go to bed later contemplating THAT.

    • I’m kind of surprised Trump hasn’t considered selling his own literal shit to his fans. I mean, they’ve been buying his verbal shit for years so I think they’d be more than ready to pay big bucks for a lump of his actual shit. Who knows how much potential money Trump’s been losing every time he flushes his toilet?
