This is quite an *interesting* viewpoint of the way the situation is going. Trump keeps faffing things up every time we get close to something, which, incidentally, is really effing annoying! Someone seems to have noticed something the rest of us haven’t. And wow, do we wish it had been seen sooner. It’s slapping us in the face, and it has been seen, so we can’t unsee it, which is also effing annoying. With respect to AlterNet:

President Donald Trump has become trapped in aforever warwith Iran not because of some strategic goal, but because of a personal vendetta against one specific person: former President Barack Obama. This is according to Salon White House columnist Brian Karem, who on Friday wrote, “I think it’s obvious Donald Trump cannot and will not end the war he started with Iran. I don’t think it has a chance of ending until he’s out of office.” What’s more, Karem isn’t the only one who thinks so, writing, “At least three people I still talk with inside the Pentagon believe it. Former national security experts I’ve known for years from both political parties believe it. More importantly, it’s apparent Donald Trump is now admitting it.”

Wonderful. Our geriatric ‘president’ has gotten us into the never-ending war. Everyone is thinking it except, apparently, us. You know, the people of America? That shine on Trump is almost gone, and the glitter is falling off.  The big news was America First. Now? It’s America Last. This is on top of everything else we have to deal with. Trump isn’t even pretending he cares about MAGA or the people of the country anymore. He does what he wants, and no one can make him work.

Karem cites a number of Trump’s recent statements that suggest he has little interest in winding down the war, instead raising the idea that the U.S. might expand its presence in Iran, potentially by putting boots on the ground. As Karem points out, Trump has also offered what are at best inconsistent justifications for the war. “If this sounds like the Vietnam War,” notes Karem, “it’s only because it is eerily similar, but with a Trumpian twist.”

That twist involves Trump’s true motivation: his grudge toward Obama, which he expresses openly. So while he complains that Iran won’t make a deal, perhaps it is because the agreement we had with Iran was torn up simply because Trump was still livid with Barack Obama after Obama made fun of him at the annual White House Correspondents’ dinner in 2011.” “I was there,” notes Karem. “I remember Trump’s face. He was mad then and he’s still mad now. He hates Obama for making fun of him then….Trump has sought revenge against Obama by trying to undo everything Obama did as president.

Trump never was any good at taking a joke, even when it was blatantly obvious it was a joke. And that’s a mighty long time to hold a grudge. But then again, this is Trump, and he rarely does anything that could be considered normal. He’s unpredictably predictable. And that was a challenging sentence to type with just 3 words. Trump has never forgiven Obama, so he put us into an eternal war. He’s made it so that Iran doesn’t trust him anymore, so it’s going to have to mumble and grumble along until we can get a new president who will at least have a chance to stop it. Thanks, no thanks, Trump, you SOB.

The bottom line is that Trumpdoesn’t care,” and as Karem notes, even those in the president’s orbit refer to him as asociopath.” “If Trump is as dangerous as some claim,” writes Karem, “and I believe he may well be, and if he is determined to continue hammering Iran, then I wonder this: how dangerous is the president of the United States to himself and others? We can all see he is physically unwell. Many of us believe he is mentally fading.”

Karem concludes on a dire note, writing, “He won’t and can’t end the war in Iran because he doesn’t want to do so, and because the Islamic Republic obviously doesn’t trust him. … At the end of the day, we’re staring at an unhinged president who began the war for intensely personal reasons. He is desperate to run Obama through the mud, and he doesn’t care who suffers as he does it. Let’s be honest: if Donald Trump can’t get his way, he wants to burn it all down.”

There’s a whole lot more to the article on AlterNet if you want to go be really scared. We are officially in a scary situation. Trump really doesn’t give a damn about anything but himself. He’ll go through the motions in the morning meetings, but it seems that the joke we made a long time ago is true. Come into the office, sign a few things, and go golfing. He still has those [__] grifts going because he loves the money. He may be making the appearance of worrying about the midterms, but we can’t be sure he cares for that, either. The only certain thing about Trump is that he always, always thinks about himself first,

See you tomorrow!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
