Strange as it might seem, it would be difficult to find an American civilian with more raw power than Taylor Swift. To the extent you’re skeptical, wait to see the impact of her disdainful dismantling of the Trump-Vance campaign on Tuesday night. She did so while effortlessly endorsing Kamala Harris.
These things matter. The world has sure taken notice. At one point this summer, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went so far as to politely ask her to schedule concerts up north. For now, her focus remains a bit south. In a night dominated by an all-too-critical debate, Swift shockingly grabbed her own headlines.
As CBS News reports:
The megastar said she had been made aware of recent AI-generated images Trump had promoted that falsely suggested she had endorsed him, adding that the incident “brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter.”Â
Has the Trump campaign created any other AI-generated endorsements? No. This fact alone speaks volumes. She then delivered the final blow by pointing to Harris with a touch of flare, signing the statement as ‘a childless cat lady.”
Ouch.
It seems to have shaken the race. Even Gov. Tim Walz noticed (Remember, this was hours after the debate…) while stating:
[Walz] was “incredibly grateful,” adding, “This would be your opportunity, Swifties — KamalaHarris.com, get on over there, give us a hand, get things going.”
At which point 4.5 million teen girls donated $200 each – not really, but again, it pushes the needle more than most appreciate. Even campaign spokesperson, Ian Same – who would otherwise be doggedly working the spin room, said the endorsement was a surprise – adding, “We are very proud… We would be happy for Taylor Swift to do whatever she would like to do in this campaign.”
That’s a bit of a reach since they probably want her to play Harris’s walk out music. Regardless, Swift just did plenty for the campaign.
To be sure, in every election each candidate talks about the importance of the youth vote, young adults who then almost always never meet projected expectations. It may be different this time.
Swift was strictly apolitical until 2018 when she endorsed Democratic challenger Gov. Phil Bredesen in his race for the Senate against Republican Marsha Blackburn, who later prevailed. But, if you haven’t seen Swift’s emotional talk with her family and staff, it really is worth a watch:
Yes. She believes.
For now, the Trump campaign surely believes it suddenly needs to prepare for a possible avalanche of votes – particularly in swing states. Do not think that young adults don’t know where the election will be decided and these are votes that the campaign might otherwise not have worried about.
Like many things in the post-debate picture, the endorsement’s staying power remains to be seen. We know Swift isn’t going anywhere.
Unlike many developments on the road to the election, this one is impossible to rebut. There is, after all, only one Taylor.
Swifties know it.
I don’t know her songs, being a child of the 60s and 70s, but I’m a big fan!
Let’s not get all irrationally exuberant- I’m sure kid rock and nugent will be chiming in and that will make a BIG difference. lol
Yeah! Riiggggghhhhhht
(Laughing my ass off emoji)
I am not good with social media, But I would love nothing more for anti-Trump humans to be able to flash mob if they can wherever he is at any given time and point and laugh at him with joyful glee as a united community.. How could that not wither him?
Stomp stomp Trumplethinskin!
